У принципу ако не набаве ништа до 2020. и ако се одлуче да ремонтују авионе у Русији, њихови МиГ-ови 29 би могли да лете до 2029-2030. пошто Руси нуде продужење животног века на том типу на 40 година.

Bulgaria issues RFP for new fighter
Citat:The Bulgarian ministry of defence has issued a request for proposals to the potential suppliers of a new fighter for the air force.
The RFP was presented to four countries on 9 December, namely Italy, Portugal, the USA and Sweden, which have until March 2017 to submit their bids.
Bulgaria will purchase its fighter through a government-to-government agreement with one of the countries, and the proposals will be prepared by the governments together with the respective manufacturers.
A selection is expected in mid-2017, at which point the selection will have to be put before parliament for approval. This process could be undertaken within 2017, but it is more likely that it will not happen before 2018.

March AFM: Bulgarian force report
Citat:The March 2017 issue of AirForces Monthly is now on sale and includes a comprehensive force report on the Bulgarian Air Force, including the latest on the country’s protracted efforts to field a new fighter. Alexander Mladenov and Krassimir Grozev look at the transformation of this small European air arm that still relies on Soviet-era frontline jets.
Until a new multi-role fighter can be introduced, the future of the MiG-29 air superiority fighter seems assured. However, its Cold War counterpart, the Su-25, may now be in its final year of service.
The final base for the Bulgarian Frogfoot is Bezmer, equipped with a squadron of 14 aircraft, six of which have been modestly upgraded.

Bulgaria gets three bids to supply eight fighter jets
Citat:Bulgaria has received offers from Italy, Sweden and Portugal to supply eight new or secondhand fighter jets as the Balkan country seeks to replace its ageing Soviet-designed MiG-29 fighters, the Defence Ministry said on Monday.
Bulgaria plans to spend about 1.5 billion levs ($820 million) to buy new aircraft to improve compliance with NATO standards while reducing reliance on Russian-made aircraft.
A special working group will choose between new Gripen jets from Sweden's SAAB and secondhand U.S. F-16 from Portugal, equipped with U.S. weaponry. Another option is to buy secondhand Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from Italy.
"Offers from Portugal with a logistical package from the United States, Sweden and Italy have been opened at the Defence Ministry," the ministry said in a statement.
Bulgaria's parliament approved a plan in June to get eight new or secondhand fighter jets between 2018-2020. Some funds for the deal have been set aside in the 2017 budget.
After the working group examines offers by the end of the month, talks with be held with the preferred bidder to prepare a contract, a source familiar with the process said.
"It is not likely that a deal is to be approved before a new government is formed after general elections on March 26", the source said.
