Rodjendan:
On August 15, 2006, the Boeing EA-18G Growler took flight for the first time. The Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft derived from the F/A-18F Super Hornet. The EA-18G is scheduled to replace the EA-6B Prowler in Navy service in 2015, while the Marine Corps will continue to operate the Prowler until 2019.

Slavljenik
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules flew for the first time on August 23, 1954. With over 2,300 built and still in production, the "Herc" is the world's most successful and prolific postwar military transport. The C-130 was developed under a 1951 requirement for a new cargo aircraft able to use rough airstrips and carry 25,000 pounds of cargo, 92 infantrymen or 64 paratroops. The Hercules established the basic military transport configuration, featuring a high-wing with minimal obstruction of the fuselage and a rear-loading freight ramp. Over the years it has undertaken dozens of useful tasks from maritime patrol to weather reconnaissance! Over 40 different variants exist, serving more than 50 nations. Civil standard Hercules are designated as L-100 and have been built in standard length L-100, stretched L-100-20 and further stretched L-100-30 versions.

Rodjendan A-5 Vigilinate:
The North American A-5 Vigilante flew for the first time on August 31, 1958. Designed as a carrier-based long-range bomber, the A-5 became one of the great reconnaissance aircraft of all time. The "Vigi" had a swept wing with no ailerons, achieving roll control with spoilers. Reconfigured for reconnaissance with greater internal fuel capacity, the Vigilante's combination of imaging equipment, side-looking airborne radar and improved electronic countermeasures ensured the aircraft saw extensive service over Vietnam. The last A-5 was retired in 1979 with fighters replacing the RA-5C model.

Here is one of our photos of a RA-5C Vigilante (Bureau Number 156641) aboard the USS Midway Museum. This Vigilante is in the livery of the "Speartips" from Reconnaissance Attack Squadron Twelve (RVAH-12). The Grumman F4F Wildcat flew for the first time on September 2, 1937. Grumman's Wildcat (built by General Motors / Eastern Aircraft as the FM-1 and FM-2) held the line until the Grumman F6F Hellcat became available to help turn the tide of the war in the Pacific. The F4F was not as fast as the Japanese Zero but was better armed and well-armored with self-sealing fuel tanks, armor plate and four (later six) .50 caliber guns. The Wildcat was the Royal Navy's first United States fighter design and the type was also used by the Royal Canadian Navy. When Grumman began building the Hellcat, the company transferred the job of building the Wildcat to General Motors' Eastern Aircraft division. Both companies combined to build a total of 7,825 aircraft; 5,837 were built by General Motors with the remainder coming from the Grumman "Iron Works." Eastern's FM-1 and improved FM-2 variants were used extensively aboard the Navy's small escort carriers. Smaller in size than Hellcats and Corsairs, Wildcats were a perfect fit for the "baby flattops." As a testament to those at Grumman who started the project as a biplane in 1935, Wildcats flew missions until the end of the war.

Još jedan rodjendan, a Madza zabušava. Pa dokle više? Smile
On September 19, 1969, the Mil Mi-24 Hind took flight for the first time. The Hind is a flying armored personnel carrier and battlefield helicopter, able to deliver a squad of soldiers and cover them with suppressive fire. The Mi-24 is large, fast, heavily armed and designed to advance on the enemy at high speed. Capable of accommodating eight troops or four stretchers, most Hinds are gunships with a stepped tandem canopy housing a weapons operator in front and a pilot higher to rear. The Mi-24 is powered by two Isotov TV3-117 turboshafts with each engine producing 2,200 horsepower. Armament includes a 12.7mm four-barrel machine gun or twin 23mm or 30mm cannons and underwing hardpoints can carry bombs, guns and rockets. It made its combat debut in Somalia in 1978, where it helped Ethiopia retake the Ogaden region. Nicknamed the Crocodile because of its camouflage scheme, the Hind became a symbol of the Cold War era and is still in use in the air forces of over 30 countries in the world today!
