Saab Touts Gripen to Malaysia
Citat:Sweden's latest Gripen fighter jet has what it takes to shoot down the competition to defend Malaysia's skies. Its manufacturer, Swedish-based defence and security company Saab Group, believes the reasons lie in the Gripen NG's cost-efficiency and multi-role operational performances.
Saab Malaysia Vice-President Thomas Linden said the Gripen multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) was among the first aircraft to focus on air-to-air combat, based on the operational range, payload and built-in Net Centric Warfare (NCW).
He said the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) was currently reviewing the Gripen in a move to replace its ageing 10 Russian-made MiG-29 aircraft.

Malezija ce ipak modernizovati svoju flotu MIG-29N
RMAF to retain MiG-29N fighter aircraft
Citat:The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) fleet of MiG-29N fighter aircraft will remain an important asset to the country's air defence. RMAF chief General Datuk Seri Roslan Saad said there has been no decision to replace the MIG-29N which had been in service since 1990 and the aircraft will still remain in service. He said RMAF will scrutinise the capabilities of the existing MIG-29N fleet to ensure it remains competitive and relevant in safeguarding the country's air space. "Initially, there were plans to phase out the aircraft and replace them with another multi-role combat aircraft. "However, we have decided to upgrade the aircraft to ensure it has similar capabilities with fighter jets owned by other countries," he told reporters after opening RMAF's 57th anniversary here today.

Saab looks to leverage industry ties in Malaysia
Citat:Saab has outlined its commitment to expand industrial alliances in Malaysia in a bid to enhance its presence in the market.
Dan Enstedt, president and CEO of Saab Asia Pacific, said in a statement on 8 April that the company's strategy in Malaysia is focused on building partnerships that can support Saab's efforts to supply the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) with a range of capabilities.
These include platforms such as the JAS 39 Gripen NG multirole fighter aircraft and systems such as electronic warfare, signature management, communications, surveillance, fire control and radars, warheads and combat management.
"Saab's focus is on building proper partnerships with national industry," said Enstedt.
