Citat:WASHINGTON, Jun 9, 2015 - The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Republic of Korea for Aegis Combat Systems and associated equipment, parts and logistical support for an estimated cost of $1.91 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
The Republic of Korea (ROK) has requested a possible sale of 3 Aegis Shipboard Combat Systems, 3 MK-41 Vertical Launching Systems, 3 Common Data Link Management Systems, 3 AN/UPX-29(V) Identification Friend or Foe Interrogators, spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, tool and test equipment, U.S. Government and contractor technical, engineering, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The total estimated cost is $1.91 billion.
New Missile Killer Performs Test Flight, on Schedule for 2018 Deployment
Citat:The United States and Japan have conducted the first flight test of a new version of the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3 Block IIA).
This new missile interceptor is designed to extend the reach of current AEGIS Ballistic Missile defense systems deployed on naval ships and ashore. It is being developed jointly by the two countries at a combined cost of $2 billion. When deployed, the new missile will extend the defensive capability of AEGIS BMD systems to intercept intermediate-range ballistic missiles (missiles capable of attacking targets at ranges of up to 5,500 km.). The current SM-3 Block IB can only engage short- and medium-range ballistic missiles (with attack ranges of up to 3,000 km.).

During the test, a target representing a medium-range ballistic missile was air-launched from a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft over the broad ocean area southwest of Hawaii. An AN/TPY-2 radar in Forward Based Mode, located at PMRF, detected the target and relayed target track information to the Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communication (C2BMC) system. The Aegis Weapon System at the Aegis Ashore site received track data from C2BMC and used its component AN/SPY-1 radar to acquire, track, and develop a fire control solution to engage the target. The Aegis Weapon System then launched the SM-3 Block IB Threat Upgrade guided missile from its Vertical Launch System. The SM-3’s kinetic warhead acquired the target reentry vehicle, diverted into its path, and destroyed the target using the kinetic force of a direct impact.

The facility at Deveselu will significantly increase NATO's BMD capability and defensive coverage of the southern and central area of Europe against short- and medium-range ballistic threats.
"The main military components of the Aegis Ashore anti-missile defence facility in Romania, a key element of the Second Stage of the European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), have been completed and transferred to the operational commander for the future integration in the architecture of NATO's anti-missile defence system," said a joint US-Romanian statement.

A Pentagon official told Defense News that the department has successfully modified the SM-6 to be an anti-ship missile, rather than just a ballistic missile defense weapon.
"This new anti-ship mode makes the SM-6 highly lethal due to its speed and agility and nearly overnight doubles the purpose of every such missile used across our fleet of Aegis destroyers," the official said. "This is an example of what the secretary sees as thinking differently and how through innovation we will continue to improve the unparalleled capabilities of the US Navy."
Citat:Amec Foster Wheeler announced on Tuesday February 23 that it has been awarded a US$183m contract by The Europe District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to support the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System.
Aegis Ashore is the land-based component of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) System. Aegis Ashore adapts the present and future Aegis BMD capabilities to address the evolving ballistic missile security environment. The land-based system is designed to be removable to support worldwide deployment.
The project will involve the construction of mission critical facilities, including launcher foundations, apron and crane pads, power plant facilities, warehouses and affiliated site structures, for the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System site on the Redzikowo Base in Poland. It will support the overall critical NATO mission for Eastern Europe missile defense strategy.

The most recent iteration of the Aegis is the so-called “Baseline 9” configuration, which in addition to updating existing systems adds a ballistic missile defense capability and an ability to detect and engage threats “over the horizon.” Lockheed has modernized five destroyers and three cruisers thus far and has plans to outfit two to three more ships a year depending on budget outlays.
There is also a version of the system being deployed on land called the Aegis Ashore system. The U.S. Missile Defense Agency is working right now to install them in Romania and Poland to protect against potential ballistic missile threats.
