Russian official: No limits on selling Moscow's defensive weapons to Tehran

Moscow, Oct 20, IRNA – Chairman of the Social Council at the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Korotchenko said Saturday that based on international regulatioins Iran had no limits to purchase defensive weapons from Russia.

Speaking to reporters, the official referred to Iran as a good market for Russian arms.

He added that Tehran could potentially buy some $11-13 billions of Russian weapons and military equipments in near future.

In addition to the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and Vietnam) which are the main purchasers of Russian arms, Iran should also find a proper status among Russia's major partners.

On the role of the anti-Iran sanctions in hampering promotion of Tehran-Moscow ties, Korotchenko said it was clear that the sanctions were approved under the US pressure in the United Nation Security Council.

The official stressed that the sanctions would not halt exports of Russia's defense equipments, air defense systems in particula, to Iran.

Additionally, he strressed that resumption of talks between Iran and Russia about selling certain weapons which were not among banned items was an issue only related to Iran and Russia.

Ministar odbrane Vahidi je izjavio da je u naoružanje uveden novi projektil koji če mornarici dati nove mogučnosti,navodno bi projektil trebao biti predstavljen javnosti u narednim danima zajedno sa novim hovercraftom Iranske proizvodnje.

Vjest je na perzijskom tako da nema smisla je postavljati kompletnu

General Abbas Doran (1950 - 1982) was both a celebrated Iranian fighter pilot and a national hero. During his time at the IRIAF, he led more than 120 strikes on Iraq and by 1982 he had flown over 2500 sorties and more than 900 combat missions.

Prior to his combat training in the F-4 Phantom, Doran received his basic flying training at Columbus AFB, Mississippi. He was a member of the Undergraduate Pilot Training Program Class, graduating in the fall of 1972.

With the help of his wingman and the rest of the IRIAF, he virtually destroyed the Iraqi Navy in October 1980 during Operation Morvarid. One of his greatest values to the IRIAF was as the mission planner; according to the IRIAF, 90 percent of his missions in Iraq were successful.

In 1982, Saddam Hussein planned to host the 7th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Baghdad to show that Iraq still enjoyed stability during the ongoing war. The conference was scheduled to take place at Baghdad’s Al-Rashid Hotel and would have been a big blow to Iran, if Saddam Hussein were to have held it successfully. Iran tried to show that Baghdad was not safe and IRIAF planned to hit Baghdad by plane for the first time. This was to be Doran’s last flight. He flew at noon on Wednesday, July 21, 1982 and bombed the Al-Doura refinery in Baghdad before carrying out a martyrdom attack on the, days before it was scheduled to open. While flying over the Iraqi capital he fell into a trap and his F-4E was hit. Knowing that he was the most wanted pilot in Iraq and also the key IRIAF mission planner, he chose to die crashing his plane into the Al-Rashid Hotel. His actions resulted in the summit being held in New Delhi instead of Baghdad.

After the outbreak of the Iran–Iraq War, General Doran became a hero in the IRIAF and was beloved by the general public for exceptional bravery he showed, especially in his home town of Shiraz.

Iran in possession of very advanced drones: Vahidi

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the radar-evading drone that recently penetrated deep into the Israeli airspace was not Iran’s most advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).


“The Islamic Republic of Iran currently has unmanned aerial vehicles with a technology by far more advanced than [that of] the drone recently flown by the resistance movement of Hezbollah in the Zionist regime’s airspace,” Vahidi said on Sunday.

The technology of Hezbollah’s Iranian-made drone was not definitely “Iran’s latest technology,” he said.

The Iranian minister emphasized that Hezbollah’s success in flying the drone over the occupied Palestinian territories shattered the delusional power of the Israeli regime and dealt a heavy blow to it.

Israel had spread enormous propaganda about its air defense system and Iron Dome but Hezbollah’s drone disgraced Tel Aviv, he pointed out.

The Iron Dome has been developed by Israel to counter short-range ballistic missiles and has been established with the financial support of the United States.

Hezbollah recently sent a radar-evading drone deep into the Israeli airspace.

The operation, code-named Hussein Ayub, saw Hezbollah’s drone fly hundreds of kilometers into the Israeli airspace and get very close to Dimona nuclear plant without being detected by advanced Israeli and US radars, Hezbollah Secretary General Nasrallah said during a televised speech on October 11.

On October 14, Vahidi confirmed that the radar-evading drone had been developed by Iran.

“Given the Zionist regime’s frequent incursions into the Lebanese airspace, we see it as the natural right of Lebanon’s Hezbollah to fly its drone above the Occupied Territories,” the Iranian minister said.
