The commissioning ceremony took place at Naval Base Karwar in Karnataka, and was attended by Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan, and India's Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan.
The Navy is acquiring two Samarthak-class multi purpose vessels, which are being built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai.
The MPVs will perform multi-role support functions such as maritime surveillance and patrol, launching and recovery of torpedoes, and operation of various types of aerial, surface and underwater targets for Gunnery/ASW firing exercises. These vessels would also be capable of towing ships and rendering humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) support with limited hospital ship capability. The ship will also act as trial platform for naval weapons and sensors under development, support platform for Immediate Support Vessels (ISVs) and salvage operations, and to provide logistics support for India island territories.

Pri�a o brodu USS Savana.
Izgra�en dr�avnim sredstvima kao deo programa "Atomi za mir" bio je zami�ljen kao tehnolo�ki demonstrator, a ne kao komercijalni projekat. Konstruisan kao kombinovani putni�ki i trgova�ki brod, nije uspeo da demonstrira uspeh ni u jednoj od navedenih kategorija. Cena izgradnje bila je, naravno, visoka, ali ni operativni tro�kovi nisu bili mali kako je zami�ljeno, jer je zahtevao nuklearne in�enjere radi rukovanja pogonom, a to je stvorilo nove probleme.
Iako su sigurnosne mere u konstrukciji broda bile izuzetne za svoje vreme, bilo je neophodno da u luci u koju pristaje uvek budu de�urna dva teglja�a da ga izvuku na pu�inu u slu�aju akcidenta.
Neke dr�ave, iako prijateljske sa SAD nisu mu dozvolile pristajanje.
Iz upotrebe je povu�en 1972. kada su otkazana dr�avna sredstva kojima je finansiran.
Pedeset godina kasnije njegov nuklearni reaktor je kona�no izva�en iz trupa. Danas je brod - muzej.

The programme was launched in response to the operational requirements associated with the S-80 submarine fleet, ensuring dedicated support and rescue capabilities for submarine crews throughout their operational life.
The BAM-IS combines a wide range of advanced systems within a single platform. It will be able to deploy a submarine rescue vehicle and conduct underwater inspection and intervention missions using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) at depths of up to 3,000 metres.
The vessel has been designed to perform deep-water underwater intervention using mixed-gas diving systems, underwater repair operations, recovery of submerged objects, search and identification missions, hyperbaric treatment of diving accidents, protection of underwater archaeological heritage, and support to conventional naval operations. It will also play an important role in the training and certification of Spanish Navy diving units, including support to the Military Diving School.
One of the programme's most significant achievements is the vessel's MOSHIP certification, making Poseid�n the first ship in the Spanish Navy capable of serving as a mother ship for both NATO's NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) and the U.S. Navy's Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System (SRDRS).

nostromo ::Jo� nekih zanimljivisti o kasarni Smokovo na Visu.

Kao �to je poznato, za vreme leta sprovodilo se organizovano kupanje vojnika/mornara za sve jedinice VPU (vojno pomorskog upori�ta) Vis pa su tako mornari i vojnici (uvek je bilo bar nekolicina vojnika u kasarni) iz kasarne Smokovo to �inili u uvali Vela Smokova.

Vela Smokova je na samom severoistoku otoka i do nje se dolazilo stazom koja je vodila iz kasarne levom ivicom streli�ta ispod Velja Glave do Vickovog vinograda gde se skretalo desno i tu se negde staza spu�tala kroz mini kanjon koji je jednim delom bio obrastao vegetacijom tako da se na nekim mestima nije videlo ni nebo. Izlaskom iz tog, da ka�em, malog kanjona zavr�avao se i pad terena i izazilo se na pe��anu podlogu uvale. Nekih dvadesetak ili ne�to vi�e metara do mora nalazilo se jedno krilo lova�kog aviona (mo�da engleskog, ne se�am se vi�e), na kojem su se tada jo� mogli pomerati eleroni (krilaca na zadnoj ivici krila). Zanimljivo je da se drugo krilo nalazilo nedaleko od obale u moru malo vi�e desno kada se gleda prema horizontu.

Naravno, pre po�etka kupanja par dana ranije pla�a ure�ivala i skupljalo sme�e koje je more tokom jeseni, zime i prole�a nanoslio na �alo. Se�am se da se pri�alo da je jednog takvog dana, sve one koji su i�li da �iste pla�u na pesku do�ekalo, a na njihovo iznena�enje i radost, desetine i desetine boksova stranih cigareta. Ve�ti mornari su odmah posle otvaranja prvih boksova, shvatili da ve�ina kutija koje su bile na gornjoj strani boksa nije bila ovla�ena, tako da su bar na neko vreme imali da pu�e �vercovane cigarete.

Koliko se se�am, niti jedan jedini mladi� koji je slu�io vojsku na Smokovom, nije oti�ao iz JNA, a da nije nau�io da pliva.

I, na samom kraju. Hrid koja se vidi dalje na moru zove se Plo�ica.

Izvinjavam se �to se ubacujem u temu posle toliko godina. Ovog leta sam ronio u uvali Vela Smokova na Visu i video krilo aviona koje i danas le�i u pli�aku, na oko dva metra dubine.

Pro�itao sam post od nostroma iz 2016. o krilu na pla�i i drugom krilu u moru. Poku�avam da utvrdim od kog aviona poti�e, pa me zanima da li neko ima fotografije tog krila na pla�i iz vremena slu�be, ili se se�a bilo kakvih detalja (oznake, boja, veli�ina)?

Svaka informacija ili stara fotografija bi mnogo pomogla. Hvala unapred!

The vessels is being constructed to an existing Multi-Purpose Icebreaker (MPI) design. During the selection process, Steerprop demonstrated that its dual-end propeller CRP (Contra-Rotating Propeller) concept delivered significantly higher thrust and improved efficiency compared to conventional single-propeller solutions.

Steerprop has supplied propulsion systems for one-third of the world�s icebreakers with azimuth propulsion in operation, and offers several proprietary ice-operating design features, including tunnel thrusters that do not require protective ice grids.
