Citat:The Chinese military has seized an uninhabited Vietnamese island that housed Vietnamese military installations and a fishing station.
The island just a few kilometers from the Philippine island of Thitu, home to one of the Philippines' most important military bases.

Citat:China grabs another reef in the South China Sea - SCMP News
The China Coast Guard (CCG) landed on Sandy Cay, a disputed reef in the South China Sea earlier this month to assert sovereignty over the island that the Philippines also claims, Chinese media reported on Thursday.
Chinese State media reports CCG officers ‘exercising maritime control’ on Sandy Cay, one of the reefs in the Spratly Islands also claimed by the Philippines.
According to the state-run Global Times, photographs show CCG officers unfurling a Chinese flag on an uninhabited sand bank, identified as Sandy Cay, also known as Tiexian Jiao in China and Pagasa Cay 2 in the Philippines.
“In mid-April this year, the China Coast Guard exercised sovereign jurisdiction by exercising maritime control at Sandy Cay in the South China Sea,” it reported, without specifying the date of the landing.
The officers carried out inspections on the reef “to collect video evidence of relevant illegal activities by the Philippines”, and cleared rubbish like plastic bottles, wood sticks and other debris, the report said.
Part of the contested Spratly Islands, the Sandy Cay is the closest reef to the Subi Reef, China’s second largest artificial island and military base in the South China Sea. It is also only several kilometers from Thitu Island, the largest base the Philippines currently holds.
My take: Sandy Cay is actually three coalescing sand bars situated between Philippines-occupied Thitu (Pag-asa Island) and China-occupied Subi. They are now above water at high tide, so they are legal ‘rocks’.
According to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, this entitles them to 12 nautical miles of territorial sea.
Sandy Cay is part of Thitu Reefs in the northwestern sector of the Spratly Islands. Thitu Reefs consist of two atolls. The eastern atoll comprises two reefs that are completely submerged.
The western atoll comprises Thitu Island and several sandbars, one of which is Sandy Cay. Thitu Island and Sandy Cay are high-tide features. The other sandbars are either completely submerged features or low-tide elevations.
Since Sandy Cay is next to Thitu (Pag-asa Island), the main Philippine outpost in the Spratly Islands, by taking it over, China is also applying pressure on Thitu.
This is just another step in China's encroaching game in the Spratly Islands. The Philippines now has another thing to worry about.

Citat:Despite China claiming on Saturday to have seized a disputed reef in the Spratly Islands of the South China Sea from the Philippines, with them posting a photo of members of the Chinese Coastguard holding up the Chinese Flag on Sandy Cay. The Philippines has since denied these claims, posting their own photo of Filipino officers on Sandy Cay.

Taiwan's Energy Crisis Could Prove to Be Existential
[Link mogu videti samo ulogovani korisnici]
Citat:"Taiwan is more vulnerable than Ukraine," says Chen. This is because of the isolated nature of the island’s grid – Taiwan has no neighboring grids to turn to in a time of crisis, and has extremely limited fuel storage capacity. The most optimistic outlooks estimate that Taiwan’s gas reserves would last for just 40 days under a full Chinese blockade. Other estimates say that the reality is closer to two weeks.
Imaju gasa na lageru za 40 dana.

US to build fast boat base near South China Sea
Citat:In a seeming bid to counter increasingly aggressive Chinese activities in the South China Sea, the U.S. plans to finance and construct a fast boat facility on the western coast of Palawan in the Philippines.
The facility will be built to launch at least five fast boats, which will be constructed by U.S.-based company ReconCraft. The manufacturer specializes in producing vessels used by law enforcement and the military for rapid interdiction.
