The Arctic holds an estimated 20% of global undiscovered oil and gas reserves.
5 countries account for virtually all current extraction: the US (Alaska), Canada, Greenland, Norway, and Russia.
The 2 most intensively exploited areas: Alaska's North Slope and 🇷🇺Russia's Yamal Peninsula.

Where extraction overlaps with sensitive territory:
7%+ of exploited land overlaps with formally protected ecological areas
13%+ overlaps with habitat ranges of key Arctic species polar bears, caribou
73% is inhabited by indigenous populations
The atlas was built specifically to make this overlap visible in one place.
Arctic infrastructure data had never been consolidated into a single accessible dataset before.
The researchers pulled from open-access databases across all 5 countries to build it.

The EU has proposed declaring the Arctic a "fossil fuel non-proliferation zone" a complete halt to new oil, gas, and coal extraction.

Ako je ovo gore tačno, onda je to de fakto predaja teritorije amerima. Zahtev grenlanđana za nezavisnost postaje deplasiran. Bolje im je da ostanu pod danskim suverenitetom, jer će Kopenhagen i dalje da ih izdržava. Amerima odlično jer dobijaju šta su hteli, bez troškova, a "ponosna" Kraljevina Danska ne gubi obraz.

Norvezani otvaraju konzulat na Grenlandu

Norway, together with other Arctic nations, has developed a new strategy for the Arctic and will establish a consulate in Greenland.
This was announced by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at a press conference, according to the news agency NTB and the newspaper VG.
“We have decided to establish a Consulate General in Nuuk, Greenland, in order to strengthen cooperation with the Greenlandic authorities,” he said.
Jonas Gahr Støre also stated that the seven Arctic member states of the NATO alliance have developed a new strategy for the Arctic. He emphasized that matters concerning Greenland should be handled by Denmark and the Greenlandic people.

Canada Signs $2.5B Radar Deal to Expand Arctic Threat Detection
Citat:Canada and Australia have signed a $2.5-billion export agreement to deliver an Over-the-Horizon Radar capability aimed at strengthening Canada’s Arctic surveillance.

The agreement moves Canada’s Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar (A-OTHR) program into the delivery phase, advancing Ottawa’s goal of achieving initial operational capability by December 2029. Work is scheduled to begin in July 2026.

Over-the-horizon radars use high-frequency radio waves reflected off the ionosphere to detect and track airborne and maritime targets thousands of kilometers away, overcoming the line-of-sight limitations imposed by the Earth’s curvature.

Under the deal, BAE Systems Australia will provide technology derived from Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network, which offers wide-area surveillance at ranges of up to 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles).

Trump reignites Greenland feud with Europe at NATO

Citat:“We are ready to defend every inch of NATO, including our own territory,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters as she arrived at a gathering of the alliance leaders in Ankara. “One of the reasons why we built NATO many, many years ago is if anything happens to one of us then everybody should stand up for each other.”

The remarks came after Trump on Tuesday said that “Greenland … should be controlled by the United States, not by Denmark” at the outset of NATO’s annual summit in Turkey.
