44,000+ extraction wells mapped
40,000 km of pipelines
512,000 km² of territory already under exploitation or licensed an area the size of Spain

The Arctic holds an estimated 20% of global undiscovered oil and gas reserves.
5 countries account for virtually all current extraction: the US (Alaska), Canada, Greenland, Norway, and Russia.
The 2 most intensively exploited areas: Alaska's North Slope and 🇷🇺Russia's Yamal Peninsula.

Where extraction overlaps with sensitive territory:
7%+ of exploited land overlaps with formally protected ecological areas
13%+ overlaps with habitat ranges of key Arctic species polar bears, caribou
73% is inhabited by indigenous populations
The atlas was built specifically to make this overlap visible in one place.
Arctic infrastructure data had never been consolidated into a single accessible dataset before.
The researchers pulled from open-access databases across all 5 countries to build it.

The EU has proposed declaring the Arctic a "fossil fuel non-proliferation zone" a complete halt to new oil, gas, and coal extraction.

Danci pregovaraju sa amerima

Per the report, the U.S. is looking to implement an agreement where U.S. forces can stay indefinitely in the autonomous Arctic territory of Denmark, even if they become fully independent. Additionally, the U.S. is reportedly looking to gain veto powers over major investment deals in the country, as the report says that the move would in effect “box out competitors like Russia and China.” Talks have now expanded outside military matters I and are now over key resources in and around the strategically important Arctic territory.

Ako je ovo gore tačno, onda je to de fakto predaja teritorije amerima. Zahtev grenlanđana za nezavisnost postaje deplasiran. Bolje im je da ostanu pod danskim suverenitetom, jer će Kopenhagen i dalje da ih izdržava. Amerima odlično jer dobijaju šta su hteli, bez troškova, a "ponosna" Kraljevina Danska ne gubi obraz.
