🔻 China has shown an entire system that changes the very essence of war. We're talking about the so-called "steel swarm" — the ATLAS strike complex, in which dozens of drones operate as a single organism.
📌 Components of the complex:
• a vehicle with a detachable launcher (SWARM II) for launching 48 barrage munitions ATLUSS-A140: reconnaissance, suppression, and strike;
• a command post;
• a transport and loading vehicle with another combat-ready SWARM II launcher.
The key here is not the technology, but algorithms that control it all. The system works as follows: targets are set up on the training ground, visually identical. The drone swarm takes off, conducts reconnaissance on its own, and within seconds identifies the real target. After that, the munitions are launched — with a 3-second interval for each drone to avoid collisions in the air. Then comes automatic guidance and strike. No classic chain of "detected → reported → coordinated → struck". Now the chain is shortened: "detected → algorithm → struck". All this can happen in seconds to prevent the target from escaping.
The peculiarity is that the order of use can be changed directly for the task. If you need to find the target — reconnaissance drones go first. If you need to suppress the enemy — electronic warfare drones are launched first, then strike ones. This makes the system universal: the same complex can be adapted to different battle scenarios.
It's worth noting the scale: to control 96 drones, only one operator is needed. In essence, the person no longer controls each device — he sets the task, and the system does the rest. At the same time, the drones exchange data, adjust their position in the air, and even avoid collisions. If some of the devices are lost, the rest automatically reorganize and continue the task.
The main point is mass. Modern air defense systems are limited in the number of targets they can simultaneously track and hit. The swarm solves this problem simply: it overloads the air defense with quantity. Even if some drones are shot down, the rest will still break through.
