Hello everyone!
Been following this forum for a long time, it's a truly great information source, and one of the best military forums outthere! ( pitty i don't understand the language!)
I have a question if i may please , i am reading in various sources on the net about an upgrade for J-22 Orao that was planned before 1991 aparently, including a MIL-STD-1553 databus and radar( !). Now i did found some topics/posts in serbian language about what appears to be a hypothetical "Super Orao", but i cannot discern what is real and what is what-if.
I was wondering if someone has some good information about the planned upgrades of the J-22 throughout it's career (maybe there are even models of this planned upgrades J-22 existing, like for the remarcable Novi Avion?)
Many thanks for your help and time.

If you were reading this http://www.mycity-military.com/Blog/Super-Orao-teoretiziranje.html you should now that it is a "what if thread" , or better say we were having fun
This is also one of those what if(more serious) http://www.mycity-military.com/Avioni/G-4-i-J-22-3-view.html#670292
J-22 was supposed to have a single engine and to fly supersonic. Also to have a fighter version with a radar. His wings are designed for 1.5+ mah speeds. We did not got the engine we needed from the UK because of we were developing it with Romania, who was the member of the VU so J-22 ended up with two smaller Rolls-Royce Viper Mk 663-41 and cannot fly supersonic. J-22 has space in the nose were it was supposed to be a radar.
There was some plans for modernising it in the 90s but little is known( the old Yugoslavia had plans). I think we posted some of that here on the forum but cant find it. Others will help. Grom and Grom B missiles that were in the development phase were supposed to be fitted on J-22 to supplement/replace AGM-65.

Thanks for the information TOP GUN, much apreciated. So what british engine has been planned initially for the J-22?
Also, was looking ar some J-22 pictures and in some of them it seems to have a store right under the wingtips , what is that for? Is it for ECM or air to air missiles?
Thanks again,
mack8
PS: My interest for the J-22 stems from the fact that i'm from ROM. Although it makes me sad that ours have been long deserted and scrapped ( for being inferior , uneconomical , or whatever reason have been invoked), while those in your country seems to be still flying very well ! Pitty, an upgraded IAR-93 with stuff from Lancer-A would have been a good machine imo.

For the engine i herd different versions including versions of RR Spey, TU RB-199, Snecma Atar...
No it is not a additional store, J-22 can't carry air to air missiles.

Thanks for your reply TOP GUN.
Are there any pictures/drawings anywhere of the initial single engine projects?
Also, the store at the wingtip is for target towing then ?
( btw now that i'm looking for it , i can't find again the picture of J-22 with the wingtip stores!)
Regards,
mack8
PS : Ok i found the picture . Seems whatever is at the wingtip , is under the fuselage aswell so looking at it now , that's some sort of air sampling / measuring pod ? (Seems to be a badge on the side of the nose, maybe this aircraft was used in some tests)
