Turkey may soon start an operation against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Iraq’s Qandil Mountains, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said Monday, as quoted by Daily Sabah newspaper.
“It is not a matter of operation, but a matter of timing. Qandil is no longer a faraway goal for us,” Soylu stated.
The main base of the PKK, designated as a terrorist organization in Turkey, is reportedly located in the Qandil Mountains, an Iraqi mountainous area near the Iranian border.

The Turkish Armed Forces advanced at least 26 kilometers (km) into Iraqi territory this past weekend, as they continue their military operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

“Our soldiers advanced between 26 to 27 kilometres in northern Iraq, and there is not much left to liberate in Qandil,” Turkish state-owned Anadolu agency reported on Saturday, citing Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu.

20 самолетов ВВС Турции уничтожили 14 крупных объектов курдских сил в Ираке, и это только начало, заявил он.
