Citat:Following the devastating ambush on September 14, 2025, which saw the destruction of roughly 80 fuel tankers, the Malian government has been hesitant to attempt another convoy from Senegal. Instead, the army and Africa Corps allies focused on the shorter route from Ivory Coast to Bamako. While this ensured the capital remained supplied, the strategy proved to be a double-edged sword.
By prioritizing the southern corridor, large parts of the Kayes region in western Mali fell under the control of JNIM. It is now impossible to travel from Bamako to Kayes without passing through an insurgent checkpoint.
Buses are now required to have segregated sections for men and women, and all female passengers are required to wear the Islamic veil. These rules are enforced by the drivers themselves, as JNIM policy dictates that drivers are held personally responsible and punished if these regulations are not followed.
JNIM has also been taking advantage of this situation, by sending large amounts of fighters from northern Mali to the west of the country, where the militants have been implanting themselves in the forests and the villages, imposing their own laws and setting up camps and recruitment centers.
