Citat: Romania's Ministry of National Defense (MApN) took delivery of its first Romanian-built Otokar Cobra II armored tactical vehicles.
The multi-year contract, worth 4.263 billion RON (852 million euros), for the procurement of 1,059 Cobra II light armored tactical vehicles was signed with Türkiye's Otokar in 2024. The vehicles are being procured in nine configurations, a basic version and eight types of derivatives, under the MApN's light tactical armoured vehicle (ATBTU) program.
Serial production of the COBRA II vehicles at Mediaș, Romania began in 2026, with the first 12 vehicles manufactured in Romania being delivered to the Romanian Army in July. By the end of this year, 216 Romanian-built vehicles, including those in four new configurations, are expected to be delivered to the Army.
Under the current plan, around 780 vehicles out of the total 1,059 ordered will be manufactured in Romania.
