RAF Typhoons intercept 10 Russian planes over Baltic

Citat:RAF quick reaction Typhoon jets intercepted 10 Russian military aircraft during a single sortie last week the Ministry of Defence has disclosed.
The RAF fighters from 6 (Fighter) Squadron were launched from their airfield in Estonia after multiple groups of aircraft were spotted by Nato air defences in international airspace near to the Baltic States.
Once airborne, the RAF jets identified the aircraft as four Fullback Sukhoi Su-34 fighters, four Foxhound Mikoyan MiG-31 fighters and two Curl Antonov An26 transport aircraft.

NATO Reports Surge in Jet Interceptions as Russia Tensions Increase

Citat:Nato member aircraft were forced to conduct more than 500 scrambles over Europe in 2014 – a fourfold increase on the previous year. Nearly 85% of these were to intercept Russian aircraft. This year, there have already been more than 300 scrambles, according to data provided by Nato to the Guardian. These are some of the highest numbers since the end of the cold war.

Danes scramble fighters to intercept Russian bombers

Citat:Denmark's military command says two Danish fighters jets were scrambled to intercept two Russian military planes flying near the country's airspace over the Baltic Sea.

Military spokesman Major Erik Boettger said Saturday it was "normal procedure when foreign aircraft approach Danish airspace", adding the Russian Tupolev TU-22M bombers never entered Danish territorial airspace.

Boettger added Thursday's incident involving Danish F-16s was in "no way dramatic."
