Citat:After a rigorous seven-step evaluation process, Canada has decided to buy 88 F-35As under its Future Fighter Capability Project, which was launched in 2017, the Minister of National Defence has announced.

The acquisition of F-35s will cost approximately $19 billion and replace the current CF-18 fleet by 2032.
Delivery of aircraft will occur in tranches, starting with an initial tranche of 16.
The delivery of these aircraft is expected to begin in 2026, with the first four aircraft arriving that year.
Then six more are expected to arrive in 2027, and the following six in 2028.

The $19 billion investment in Canada’s new fighter fleet not only covered the aircraft cost but also included several other important elements that will ensure their long-term success. Sustainment set-up and services, which will provide the necessary infrastructure and personnel to keep the F-35s in top condition, were a key components of the investment. Additionally, the investment covered the cost of associated aircraft equipment, such as spare parts and tools, which are essential for the smooth and efficient operation of the aircraft. The investment also included the construction of modern fighter squadron facilities in Bagotville, Quebec, and Cold Lake, Alberta, which will be vital for the successful implementation and operation of the new F-35 fleet.

POLL: Canadians support future purchases of Gripens over F-35s by 30-point margin
Citat:A new EKOS poll shows a plurality of Canadians support future purchases of Saab Gripen fighter jets over the F-35 after our locked-in purchase of 16 F-35s is complete.
When asked, “Based on what you know, which option do you believe is best for Canada?” 13% supported continuing with the F-35 as Canada’s primary fighter jet. 43% supported switching to the Gripen for future purchases. 29% supported maintaining a mixed fleet of F-35s and Gripens. Four percent said none of the above/choose a different aircraft, and 12% said they did not know or did not respond.
The Gripen is more popular than the F-35 in all regions and provinces. The F-35 is most popular in Alberta (18%), but even there, support for the Gripen is 25 points higher (43%).
51% of Liberal voters, 60% of NDP voters, 69% of Green voters, and 42% of Bloc voters favour the Gripen. Conservative voters are more split, with 30% favouring the F-35, 22% favouring the Gripen, and 30% favouring a mixed fleet.
