The contract is worth between C$15 billion ($11.5 billion) and C$19 billion and the planes are due to be delivered between 2025 and the early 2030s.
Boeing and Airbus have now formally written to Ottawa expressing concerns about the current requirements, said two sources familiar with the matter who declined to be identified given the sensitivity of the situation. The fourth bidder is Sweden’s Saab AB.

Citat:Canada has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for 88 new combat aircraft to replace its ageing fleet of Boeing F/A-18 (CF-18/CF-188 in national service) Hornets.
The RFP, released by Public Services and Procurement Canada on 23 July, has been sent to Sweden for the Saab Gripen E; to the United Kingdom for the Eurofighter Typhoon (the bid is being led by Airbus rather than BAE Systems, because of the company's stake in Canadian-based Bombardier); and to the United States for both the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
The companies will submit a 'security offer' by the third quarter (Q3) of 2019 and, following feedback from the government, they may then revise and resubmit their offer as part of the initial proposal in Q2 2020.

IMP joins bid to assemble Canada's new fighter jets in Nova Scotia

His IMP Group is part of a consortium bidding to put together and maintain 88 of Saab’s Gripen fighter jets at his company’s massive hangar near Halifax Stanfield International Airport to serve as Canada's next wave of fighter jets. The $19-billion future fighter procurement program aims to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force’s existing fleet of CF-18 Hornets.
“We have to win the competition first of course,” said Rowe, IMP's founder and executive chairman.
“But if we win, they will be ... assembled in our large new hangar at the airport.”
It wouldn’t make sense to set up a factory here to build less than 100 Gripens, he said.
Citat:Other fighters in the race include Lockheed Martin’s F-35 and Boeing’s Super Hornet. Stephen Harper’s Conservative government had chosen the F-35, but then backed away from the plan over concerns about the technology and mounting cost.
“We should have the lowest price,” Rowe said of the Gripen. “And it’s a cold weather aircraft that’s a very popular one.”
The feds are slated to choose the winning bidder in 2022, with the first jets to be delivered three years after that.

In a surprise move on 14 December 2020, during Aéro Montréal’s Innovation Forum 2020, Saab AB announced that it is offering to create two new aerospace centres in Quebec that will create and protect thousands of aerospace related jobs.

The two new centres are part of Saab’s proposal of the Saab 39 Gripen for Canada’s Future Fighter Capability Project. Saab, in co-operation with the Swedish government, has offered the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) 88 Gripen E fighter aircraft, with a comprehensive support and training package for the Future Fighter Capability Project.
