Its first commander was Konstantin Petrovich von Kaufman, who was also Governor-General of Russian Turkestan at the time.

Citat:Unannounced combat readiness inspection started in the Southern Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation aviation units and formations located in the Rostov and Volgograd regions under the leadership of the 4th Air Force and Air Defence army Commander Lieutenant General Victor Sevostyanov.
About 1,000 servicemen and more than 40 aircraft, including Su-24M, Su-24MR and Su-34, are involved in the event.
In the course of the inspection, the servicemen are practicing putting units and formation on highest combat alert levels, conducting aerial reconnaissance and performing bomb strikes on ground objects at the Krasnodar Krai range.
The pilots will perform more than 20 sorties and about 20 strikes with high-explosive fragmentation air bombs.
Vanredna inspekcija. Uključeno 40 aviona, bacače bombe.

Према писању различитих руских портала, у састав авио-пука који је базиран на ваздухопловној бази Хмејмим-Сирија, пребачена је група супер-модерних вишенаменских борбених апарата Су-35С! Наводно, ради се о укупно 4 јединице овог ваздухоплова 4++ генерације са ознакама „03“, „04“, „05“ и „06“ (серијских бројева 02517, 02518, 02619 и 02620). Према тим наводима, ова група авиона је полетела са аеродрома Приволжскиј који се налази у Астраханској области, заједно са путничким авионом Ту-154М који се налази у саставу ВКС РФ.

Su-24MR i An-30 vracaju se na aerodrom Satalovo (Smolensk).
Isti je bio rasformiran 2009.godine ukazom MoD Serdyukova.

Речь идёт об отдельной разведывательной эскадрилье, вооруженной сверхзвуковыми разведчиками Су-24МР и самолётами аэрофотосъёмки Ан-30. Как сообщает информационный ресурс, на авиабазе уже начались учебно-тренировочные полёты.
Напомним, что легендарный 47-й Борисовский гвардейский авиаполк, базировавшийся на аэродроме более 50 лет, был расформирован по указу бывшего Министра обороны Сердюкова. Все самолёты покинули место постоянной дислокации. И вот, спустя почти 6 лет боевые машины снова вернулись в смоленское небо.
