MoD clears Rs 460-bn purchase of missiles, guns and naval helicopters
Citat:he defence ministry’s apex procurement body, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), accorded approval on Saturday for acquisitions worth about Rs 460 billion. This includes missiles and two types of helicopters for the Navy, and artillery guns for the Army.
The biggest procurement green-lighted today is the Rs 217.38 billion purchase of 111 naval utility helicopters (NUH), which will be built by a competitively chosen Indian private sector company.

The second agreement (Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement, COMCASA), which ” will provide India with access to modern communication security systems and allow optimal use of its existing U.S. military equipment”, was one of the main results of the current 2+2 meeting.
All that remains, according to the author of the GT article, is to conclude the third “Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement for Geo-spatial Cooperation”, which ensures an exchange of data in the field of “geospatial” exploration, i.e. cartographic data for a particular area of the earth’s surface.

After upgrade, MiG-29 gained in strength.
Citat: The Indian Air Force's decades-old MiG-29s are in the process of being upgraded. This programme started in 2008, but is unknown to us if the upgrade programme has already been finished. With this upgrade the Russian origin aircraft is now capable of mid-air refueling and is compatible with the latest missiles and can launch multi-dimensional attacks.
The Bharatiya Vayu Sena (BVS, Indian Air Force) has three squadrons of MiG-29s, 47sq and 223sq (both 8 Wing) at Adampur AFS in the state of Punjab and 28sq (33 Wing) at Jamnagar AFS in the state of Gujarat. Each squadron comprises 16-18 aircraft.
India did sent the first six (four single-seat and two dual-seat) of 78 MiG-29s to Russia for upgrades in 2008. The aircraft will be brought to one standard, the MiG-29UPG. This version is similar to the MiG-29SMT variant, but differs by having a foreign-made avionics suite. Work on the first six has been done in Russia, while all of the remainder will be/have been modernized in the Air Force’s MiG-29 overhaul facility at No.11 Base Repair Depot in Ojhar, near Nasik.
