Early tests are raising worries that the USS Gerald R. Ford may not meet the Navy’s goal of significantly increasing the number of warplanes it can quickly launch — and could even be less effective than older vessels.

In addition to the ship’s launching and landing systems for jet fighters, officials are also concerned about its advanced radar system, which is being produced by Waltham-based Raytheon Company. It also remains unclear if a key weapons elevator will work as promised.

A number of other systems, such as communications gear, meanwhile, are performing at less than acceptable standards, according to the assessment by J. Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon’s director of operational test and evaluation. Gilmore concluded that the Navy has little choice but to redesign key components of the ship.

Rear Admiral Thomas J. Moore, the program executive officer for aircraft carriers, defended the progress of the ship in an interview and expressed confidence that, in the two years before delivery, the Navy and its contractors will overcome what he acknowledged are multiple hurdles.

Da li neko ima podatak kada je poslednji put izvrsen uspesan direktan napad (bilo avionskom navodjenom, ili ne navodjenom bombom, torpedom ili balistickom raketom) na neki americki nosac aviona (bilo koje klase) ?

Posle WWII ne. USS CARD je 1964. potopljen u luci u Sajgonu dejstvom vijetnamskih komandosa koji su postavili eksploziv na njega.

To je stvarno pod onim "bilo koje klase"
Ali ovaj je zakrpljen i nastavio je sa svojim poslom transporta. Bukvalno je bio nosač sa civilnom posadom.

Ništa čudno, ima tu mnogo novih tehnologija, ali kada se to kod Rusa desi, uglavnom se svi utrkuju da dokažu koliko su Rusi tehnološki inferiorni u odnosu na Zapad.

Kao i sve što je novo ima dečije bolesti prležaće ih ali će ih to verovatno još dosta koštati, i odložiće vreme ulaska u operativnu upotrebu. Kao što kažu u tekstu prinuđeni su da neke stvari redizajniraju.
