The contract was awarded by the U.S. Navy's Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTD) Orlando, via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
The Nigerian Air Force is acquiring 12 Bell Textron AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from the United States under a $455 million contract finalized in March 2024.

A Nigerian delegation visited the facility on September 16, where they ceremonially signed the frame of the first aircraft.
Bell expects production of all 12 AH-1Zs to be completed by early 2029.
