Espionage: a Russian agent was caught in a spectacular operation
Citat:A Russian military intelligence agent was detained in Kharkiv, Ukraine, while trying to access the technical documentation of a Ukrainian-made T-84BM Oplot tank. The news was confirmed by Ukrainian media, as well as by the online military site Defense Blog.
According to the published material of Dylan Malyasov, the Ukrainian security service, known as the SBU, prevented the attempt of the Russian military agent to obtain the documentation mentioned above of the Ukrainian tank.
Ukrainian media reported that the captured Russian military spy had acted as an illegal agent of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GRU) of the Russian Federation.
According to the SBU, the Russian spy tried to recruit an employee of the Ukrainian company Kharkiv Morozov, which develops the modern Ukrainian tank. The SBU found out about this experience and set a trap for the spy. The Ukrainian agency controlled a developed event for the transmission of falsified information to the Russian spy.

German man charged for spying at Bundestag for Russians
Citat:Germany's federal prosecutor's office announced the espionage charges in a press release on Thursday.
It said the suspect, identified only as Jens F., worked for a company that was hired to carry out checks on electrical equipment by the Bundestag, Germany's lower house of parliament.
In that role, the German national allegedly used his access to collect data and pass it on to "an employee in the Russian Embassy in Berlin, who mainly works for the Russian military secret service GRU," the statement said.
The 55-year-old is alleged to have sent PDF files "on his own initiative" with floor plans of the Bundestag's properties to Russian intelligence between late July and early September 2017.

Bulgarian military arrested for espionage in favor of Russia

The group also includes senior officials from the Ministry of Defense’s system, responsible for the ministry’s budget, and two Military Intelligence officers – one collecting information on countering hybrid threats and risks, including from Russia, the other a participant. A former Military Intelligence Officer has been seconded abroad as Secretary, Military Attaché and Defense Attaché and is now Director of the Classified Information Registry of the National Assembly.

Top NATO Scientist With Security Clearance Busted Spying for China
Citat:An Estonian military defense scientist, who held a senior role at NATO, was convicted of spying for China last week.
Chinese military intelligence recruited an Estonian national working at a NATO research institution focused on maritime and submarine research, The Daily Beast has learned.

The spy, Tarmo Kõuts, renowned in the Estonian scientific community for his research, was convicted last week and sentenced to three years in prison. The Baltic country’s intelligence services had warned for years of the growing Chinese threat, but the conviction was the first of its kind. So far, Estonia’s counterintelligence service, known domestically by its acronym KAPO, has been praised for its success in catching spies recruited and run by Russia.
According to Aleksander Toots, the deputy director of KAPO and Tallinn’s top counterintelligence official, Kõuts was recruited in 2018 by China’s Intelligence Bureau of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission—as Beijing’s military intelligence agency is known—along with an alleged accomplice who is yet to be tried in court. Both were arrested on September 9, 2020, with no publicity or discussion of the case in the Estonian media.

Kõuts pleaded guilty to conducting intelligence activities against the Republic of Estonia on behalf of a foreign state. The charges were one stop short of treason. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

Kõuts was recruited on Chinese territory, said Toots, who spoke exclusively with The Daily Beast and Estonia’s Delfi newspaper: “He was motivated by traditional human weaknesses, such as money and need of recognition.”
