Posto je trenutno u centru paznje GBU-57 pocelo se i pisati o novom "bunker busteru" na kojem se radi vec vise godina a pod trenutnim nazivom Next Generation Penetrator (NGP).

Jedan od vecih razloga za razvoj novog penetratora je zahtev da novi bombarderi B-21 budu u mogucnosti da nose dva takva jer je B-21 po dimenzijama nesto manji od B-2 i moze da ponese jedan GBU-57 a ne dva.

Takodje se razmatra i dodavanje bustera.



Poslednji postavljeni TT zahtevi su iz februara 2024.

“The prototype penetrator warhead design effort should allow integration of technologies acquired and lessons learned under previous penetrator warhead developments to meet performance requirements for the HDBT target set,” the contracting notice added. “The USAF will consider novel, demonstrated, or fielded Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) technologies with viability for integration into a warhead guidance system design that can achieve repeatable, high accuracy performance in GPS aided, degraded, and/or denied environments.”

The notice also said that a “terminal accuracy” of “CE90 w/in 2.2m both in GPS aided, degraded, and denied environments” was desired. What “CE90 w/in 2.2m” means in layman’s terms is a munition that can hit within 7.2 feet (2.2 meters) of a specified impact point at least 90 percent of the time. This is a very high degree of required accuracy, especially for employment in GPS-degraded or denied environments.

US Air Force develops Next Generation Penetrator to replace GBU-57 MOP on B-21 Raider strategic bomber
Citat:As reported by The War Zone on June 24, 2025, the U.S. Air Force has accelerated efforts to develop a new air-delivered munition known as the Next Generation Penetrator (NGP), which is intended to succeed the GBU-57/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). This decision follows the first operational employment of the GBU-57/B during Operation Midnight Hammer, in which B-2 Spirit stealth bombers dropped a total of 14 MOPs on Iranian nuclear facilities. Twelve munitions were dropped on the Fordow enrichment complex, while two were aimed at Natanz.

According to the Air Force’s February 2024 contracting notice, the Next Generation Penetrator is being designed with a maximum warhead weight of 22,000 pounds and must be capable of delivering blast, fragmentation, and deep penetration effects. While the gross weight and external dimensions of the complete munition remain unspecified, the NGP will likely be smaller than the 30,000-pound GBU-57 to better align with the internal payload bay limitations of the B-21 Raider stealth bomber. Unlike the GBU-57/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), which is an unpowered gravity bomb, the Next Generation Penetrator (NGP) may feature powered standoff capability to enable delivery from a safer distance, especially in highly contested airspaces. Integration with the B-21 is a key consideration, since the new platform is expected to replace the B-2 and carry a significantly greater share of the long-range strike mission. Currently, the B-2 is the only operational aircraft cleared to deliver the MOP, and it can carry just two per sortie, a constraint that would double the number of required aircraft if translated to the B-21.
The contracting notice also specifies stringent performance requirements for the NGP’s guidance and navigation systems. These include a terminal accuracy of CE90 within 2.2 meters, meaning the weapon must impact within 2.2 meters of the intended target at least 90% of the time, even in GPS-degraded or denied environments.

GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator’s Replacement Prototypes Just Ordered By USAF

Citat:The U.S. Air Force has awarded a contract for the development and production of a new Next Generation Penetrator (NGP) bunker buster bomb. NGP is the planned successor to the 30,000-pound GBU-57/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), which became a household name after its first-ever real-world use against deeply-buried nuclear facilities in Iran during Operation Midnight Hammer earlier this year.

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) recently announced that it had received the new NGP contract from the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s (AFLCMC) Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. ARA will be working on the new bunker buster bomb in close cooperation with Boeing, the current prime contractor for MOP. The stealthy B-2 bomber is currently the only aircraft cleared to employ MOPs operationally, and can only carry two of them on a single sortie. The future B-21 Raider stealth bomber is smaller than the B-2 and is expected to be able to carry a single MOP.
