NATO has begun its large-scale Ramstein Flag 2026 air exercise, running June 8 to 19, with activity in states bordering Russia. The exercise is hosted primarily by Denmark, Spain, Sweden, and the Russia-bordering states of Norway and Finland, with the northern live-fly phase shared between Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Its stated aim is to train Allied air forces’ rapid-response capabilities under Article 5 collective-defense scenarios.

On the scale: NATO and Finnish releases first cited 19 nations and more than 150 aircraft, but the Finnish Air Force revised the totals on June 1 to 18 nations and over 200 aircraft, of which around 150 operate in the Nordic region. Flying runs daily, with roughly 150 sorties per day. In Finland, operations center north of the Tampere–Jyväskylä–Kuopio line, with US F-35s at Pirkkala, German and US aircraft at Rovaniemi near the Arctic Circle, and Spanish and Polish jets at Tikkakoski.
