BELFAST — Finland has announced it will acquire the US-Israeli-made David’s Sling long-range air defense system at a cost of €316 million ($345 million), just a day after it became the newest member of NATO and amid a potential Russian buildup up on Finnish borders.

In total, according to the report of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, officials checked more than 50 thousand objects capable of accommodating 4.8 million people.
The condition of most civilian air raid shelters is assessed as satisfactory, but some maintenance and repair work is required.
The audit showed that more than 90% of shelters provide reliable protection against bombing and shelling with conventional weapons, 83% protect against gases and radiation.
Shelters are equipped with fans, security doors, folding beds and dry latrines, as required by law passed in 2011.

This is Finland’s first FMS case for the Northrop Grumman [NOC]-built AARGM-ER missiles.
