Tadžikistan ima relativno dugačku granicu sa Afganistanom. Do sad nije bilo nekih problema, prvenstveno što sa obe strane reke Pandž žive etnički Tadžici koji su čak i u rodbinskim vezama.

U kasno proleće i preko leta, reka zna da bude veoma opasna, jer je izuzetno brza sa gomilom skrivenih stena, pri tom je tamno sive boje.
Na nekim mestima je toliko uska da možete da prebacite kamen na drugu stranu. (postaviću sliku, gde sam ja to radio)

Ceo taj deo zemlje je baš retko naseljen. Primera radi autonomna oblast Gorno Badakšan je malo manje površine od Srbije a ima jedva 200.000 stanovnika od kojih oko 60.000 u glavnom gradu Horogu.
To kontrolu tako velike granice čini teškom, pogotovo u oblasti Vahanske doline koja omogućava lak transport i iz Afganistana i iz Pakistana
