1947 – A Trans-Canada Air Lines Lockheed 18-08A Lodestar crashes on a wooded slope west of Mount Elsay while on approach to Vancouver, B.C., killing all 15.
1957 – Birth of Léopold Eyharts, brigadier general in the French Air Force and ESA astronaut.
1981 – The Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon’s first air-to-air combat success is achieved by the Israeli Air Force over the Bekaa Valley when two Syrian Mil Mi-8 helicopters are shot down.
1986 – Pan Am returns to the Soviet Union, using a Boeing 747 from JFK International Airport in New York.

1945 – The Royal Air Force begins Operation Manna; an “airdrop” of 11,000 tons of food into the still-unliberated western part of the Netherlands, with the acquiescence of the occupying German forces, to help feed civilians in danger of starvation in the Dutch famine.
