"This is the only known photo available with romanian Heinkel He-111H-6 "white 58" bomber that appeared in Flight International magazine and without to be mentioned about location or year.
After long time until 5 years ago, we found out the plane is photographed at the Zemun Polje airbase near Belgrade in April 1952, and the Yugoslav authorities sold this cliche to Flight International magazine 3 years later as a "press photo".
This "white 58" is the one that defected in March 13, 1952 from Brașov airbase to Yugoslavia, the Romanian crew consisting on pilot Dumitru Piţurcă, Air Force Wing Political Commisar and Party Official lieutenant Ion Ghinea, major (senior rank also) lieutenant doctor physician Ioan Bucur, plus the flight engineer sergent Gheorghe Ciurea and the radio operator plutonier Eugen Horhoian.
Also, the pilot Dumitru Piţurcă declared upon landing at the Yugoslav airport, the fact that he came from the 17th Bombardment Regiment, which had been established in Brașov in December 1st, 1951.
Moreover, also from Piţurcă's statements, he transferred to the Regiment above mentioned, military equipment and navigation personnel from the 6th Bombardment Regiment, which was the first such Regiment established in Romania after the Second World War.
Savel Stănescu, the defection organiser and the 6th member of the gang that was very close friend to Pițurcă, refused in the last moment to join the attempt and was arrested later on.
On a report dated February 4th, 1965 from a intelligence security informant that spoke in Cleveland (USA) with Dumitru Piţurcă, it was mentioned that there was another person on the plane, Branko Trikulić, but actually is about Savel Stănescu that never make it.

Petre Opriș wrongly wrote in his articles about this defection that occurred on March 13th, 1952, but he had mentioned about Heinkel-111 "no.53" which actually is about the first defection in Romanian post WW2 from the Caransebeș airbase to Italy in October 1946 with the crew consisting on pilot Matei Ghica-Cantacuzino, the flight engineer Raul Gheorghiu, Mihail Fărcăşanu (leader of the youth organization of the National Liberal Party) together with his wife Pia, and Vintilă Brătianu. A totally different story.

One more thing.
Pițurcă and Doctor Ioan Bucur arrived in USA in March 23rd, 1955 and went for a while to Pițurcă's brother-in-low named Paul Petrowski in Avon Lake, Ohio.
Pițurcă died in 1994 in USA".
