Citat:On 30 October 2018, it became known that the Canadian Governments accepts formal bids for a new fighter jet in May 2019. They are planning to equip the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) with the first new aircraft by 2025.

The assistant deputy Minister of Defense said that a draft bid package for 88 aircraft - in an expected USD 12 billion contract - will be issued to leading companies by the end of this year. Expected terms of condition for the contract is a package of guaranteed Canadian industrial benefits or offsets from the winning bidder.

US Won’t Compete F-35 in Canada if RFP Requires Offsets
Citat:U.S. officials have threatened to pull the F-35 out of the competition to replace the Royal Canadian Air Force’s aging CF-18 fighters over the Liberal government’s plan to ask bidders to re-invest some of the giant purchase contract in Canadian industry.
The warnings are in two letters sent to the government last year and obtained by defence analyst Richard Shimooka. They were released in a report published Monday by the Macdonald-Laurier Institute think-tank.
They say the requirement is incompatible with Canada’s obligations as a member of the group of countries working together to develop the F-35 stealth fighter in the first place.

Tu će vojska da ima posljednju riječ. Vrlo su jasni bili kad su rekli da neće jednomotorni avion radi velikih prostranstva i udaljenostima između aerodroma. I da u slučaju otkaza jednog motora imaju mogućnost nastavka leta i sigurnog prizemljenja aviona.
