Citat:Two warships have ended their service with the Navy this week, a 42-year-old nuclear guided-missile submarine and one of the first Littoral Combat Ships, the service announced.

USS Georgia (SSGN-729) returned Monday from its final deployment to Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga., and is set to leave the fleet on Friday.
Georgia is one of four Ohio-class guided-missile nuclear submarines — former nuclear ballistic missile submarines retrofitted to field 154 Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles and special operations.
USS Ohio (SSGN-726), USS Michigan (SSGN-727), USS Florida (SSGN-728) and Georgia were converted into the guided-missile configuration from 2002-07 and have been key platforms for the Navy in the Mediterranean and Middle East. During its most recent patrol, Georgia was part of U.S. strikes on Iran during Operation Midnight Hammer and Operation Epic Fury.

Penzija za podmornicu USS San Juan (SSN 751)

Citat:U.S. Navy held the decommissioning ceremony for Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS San Juan (SSN 751) at the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington, on August 6.

Held on the anniversary of the ship’s commissioning, the ceremony marked the decommissioning of the only U.S. Navy submarine named for the capital city of Puerto Rico, after 38 years of operational service.
Commissioned in 1988, San Juan joined the fleet as the first of the 'improved' Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs). This enhanced design provided capabilities that would define the next generation of submarine warfare, incorporating strengthened sail for ice operations along with advancements in sonar and combat systems.

Citat:U.S. Navy has accepted delivery of its newest Lewis B. Puller-class expeditionary sea base, USS Hector A. Cafferata Jr. (ESB-8 ), from General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, on August 25.

The delivery of ESB 8 marks the official transfer of the ship from the shipbuilder to the Navy, following completion of integrated sea trials earlier this summer.
ESB 8 is named for U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Private First Class Hector A. Cafferata Jr., who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Korean War.
The vessel's keel was laid at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, California on April 25, 2024, and she was christened on March 7 this year.
ESBs are highly flexible mobile sea-based platforms designed to support a variety of maritime based missions, and are a part of the critical access infrastructure that supports the deployment of forces, equipment, supplies, and warfighting capabilities.

Zumwalti bi mogli da dobiju nove radare koji su trebali biti ugradjeni na otkazane FFG-62.

US Navy Eyes 2028 Installation of SPY-6 Radar on Zumwalt-class Destroyers

[Link mogu videti samo ulogovani korisnici]

Citat:Jen Gauthier, Raytheon’s vice president of Naval Systems & Sustainment confirmed that study activity was examining options to replace the current AN/SPY-3 X-band multifunction radar with AN/SPY-6(V)3 from later this decade, several years earlier than previously planned. Naval News reported earlier this year that AN/SPY-6(V)3 radars originally manufactured for the now cancelled FFG-62 Constellation-class frigate program could now potentially be repurposed for backfit to the DDG-1000 ships.

The US Naval Sea Systems Command began work in 2022 to assess opportunities to improve the long-term supportability and interoperability of the DDG-1000 destroyers through the implementation of a so-called Zumwalt Enterprise Upgrade Solution (ZEUS). The precept of ZEUS is to replace unique-to-type DDG-1000 combat systems and sensors with analogous equipments common to other US Navy surface combatants.

The retrofit of AN/SPY-6(V) forms a core part of the navy’s ZEUS plan. One member of the wider AN/SPY-6(V) Air and Missile Defense Radar family, the AN/SPY-6(V)3 variant features three fixed array faces each populated by nine Radar Modular Assemblies (RMAs). An RMA is a self-contained radar antenna packaged in a 2 x 2 x 2 ft box.

navy ima problem sa parama

Trump’s war on Iran is rapidly draining US navy budget, documents and interviews reveal

Donald Trump’s war on Iran has driven the US military into a severe financial crisis, with the US navy forced to transfer money from its payroll and other sources to cover the costs of combat, according to documents seen by the Guardian, and interviews with navy officials, contractors and defense analysts.

The US-Israeli operation, which has depleted US munitions stockpiles and prompted retaliatory Iranian strikes that have wrecked strategic bases across the Middle East, is piling pressure on budgets across the military.

One Pentagon memo about navy funding seen by the Guardian warns that there are “shortfalls in payroll” accounts due to the department “raiding” them to fund combat operations.
Experts and former officials say the accounts are running dry. “The piggy bank is broken,” said Harlan Ullman, a retired naval officer. Ullman is a member of the National Commission for the Future of the Navy but he said he is not speaking on the commission’s behalf.

One official and one navy contractor said non-emergency maintenance on shore-based facilities has been deferred because of the cash crunch.

The navy’s budget for 2026, almost $300bn, has different batches of money allocated by Congress for various requirements: personnel, shipbuilding, procuring specific weapons systems and “operations and maintenance”, the day-to-day running of the fleet and its bases. The law limits how money can be rejiggered throughout all those batches of money.
