Saudi air defence to incorporate AWACS feed
Citat:The Royal Saudi Air Defense Force (RSADF) is updating its air defence system to receive information from the Royal Saudi Air Force’s five-strong Boeing 707-derived E-3A Sentry fleet.
The RSADF’s legacy air defence system does not have a link to the airborne warning and control system (AWACS) fleet, but a request for proposals for an updated system will require the incorporation of the AWACS feed into the ground-based system, Martin Robertson, former military advisor to RSADF, told the SMi ISR conference in London.
The request for proposals has been delayed by approximately 12 months, but is expected to be released at some point in 2015, with the introduction of the updated system coming 12 months after that.

Air Force upgrading radars on its AWACS fleet
Citat:The Air Force has kicked off a $60 million overhaul of communications on its E-3 Sentry fleet to better track enemy aircraft.
It is installing the AN/UPX-40 system, meant to eliminate ground clutter to better detect, identify and track enemy and friendly low-flying aircraft, according to a news release on the system. The AWACS aircraft will use the information to send intercepting aircraft to enemy targets.
The AWACS Next Generation Identification Friend or Foe program office at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, in April completed the first installation of the system. The Air Force plans to upgrade its entire fleet of 32 aircraft.
