Applied by the 23rd Maintenance Squadron, the heritage aircraft, formerly Osan (South Korea) based 80-0267, proudly carries the exact shark-tooth pattern and historic 48 code famously adorned by the American Volunteer Group's Curtiss P-40 Warhawks.

For now, according to the latest plans, A-10s are planned to remain in service until 2030 at Moody and Whiteman (MO) Air Force Bases. On 26 June 2023, it was announced that Moody would retire their last A-10s during 2028.

The silent sunset of the Warthog’s Schoolhouse
Citat:Last month (August 2026), a solemn military milestone quietly unfolded at Nellis AFB (NV). An A-10C Thunderbolt II, with serial number 82-0665, the very last of the 716 'Warthogs' ever manufactured, completed the final training flight of the 66th Weapons Squadron.

While the A-10 aircraft itself received a temporary congressional reprieve to remain in operational service through 2030, the final landing of this particular Thunderbolt II officially shuttered the USAF’s graduate-level Warthog instructor pipeline. The closure of the 66th Weapons Squadron's A-10 curriculum ends nearly 50 years of institutional tactical mastery, creating a significant gap in the USAF's Close Air Support (CAS) and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) centers of excellence.
