With deliveries of the Pilatus PC-21 to the Royal Australian Air Foce (RAAF) well under way, the retirement of the aircraft it is replacing, the PC-9/A, is nearing. Of 49 PC-21s ordered, 24 have been delivered already.

The PC-9/A serves with the Central Flying School at RAAF Base East Sale (Vic.), ARDU at RAAF Base Edinburgh (SA), No. 2 Flying Training Squadron at RAAF Base Pearce (WA) and No. 4 Squadron at RAAF Base Williamtown (NSW).

The PC-9/A has been in service since 1987, with 67 aircraft originally ordered. According to the Scramble database, 63 of those are still on strength with the RAAF.

The PC-9/A is due for retirement in 2019-2020. Most likely the bulk of the PC-9s will be sold, however, apparently there are plans to keep six PC-9s for display purposes and another ten for training and research.

Bulgarian PC-9M returns to the air
Citat:A Bulgarian Air Force (Bulgarski Voennovazdushni Sili, BVVS) PC-9M trainer damaged in a forced landing in 2010 has recently been returned to airworthiness. Serial 665 (c/n 665) has been rebuilt by Pilatus at its factory in Stans-Buochs. The aircraft is seen here returning from a test flight on January 31.
