Tiger MkIII nears launch as partners close in on common configuration
Citat:Airbus Helicopters is confident that it will be able to launch its Tiger MkIII upgrade programme by year-end after securing agreement from three customers for the modification.
For the last six months Airbus Helicopters has been leading “close technical discussions” between France, Germany and Spain, says chief executive Bruno Even.
The three nations are “converging” on a common configuration for the Tiger MkIII. This should be agreed by year-end in order to officially launch the programme, ahead of a contract being in place by mid-2021.

ACitat:irbus has suggested that operating the Tiger as it currently stands costs A$9,465 per hour; however a RUSI report estimated the cost per flying hour to be around A$27,000 and the defence annual report estimates it’s more like A$34,000 per hour. That’s in comparison to the Apache’s projected operating cost per hour at A$10,567.

Due high costs, the program was cancelled in 1986 but was relaunched during 1987 and 5 prototypes were built. First flight took place April 27, 1991. New setbacks delayed serial production to March 2002 with both France and Germany each ordering 80 aircraft. As of 2010 less than 30 of these were delivered.
