Macedonian modernisation begins with helicopter overhaul

The two aircraft, bearing the identification numbers 302 and 303, have now become operational with the Aviation Brigade's Transport Helicopter Squadron.
Commenting on the event, Jolevski said that the newly overhauled Mi-17s are part of a batch of 10 MVV helicopters scheduled to undergo a general overhaul over a two-year period, with four more to return to service by the end of this year. Describing the successful overhaul of the Mi-17s as the first visible result of the ongoing modernisation of the ARM, Jolevski said that a group of air force technicians had recently completely their training abroad and are now certified to maintain the ARM's helicopters.

MACEDONIA RESTORES HISTORIC MI-17s, MI-8MTs and MI-24Vs TO FOLLOW
On March 5th the Aviation Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia (Vozduhoplovna Brigada na Armijata na Republika Makedonija, Vbr na ARM) received back from general overhaul a pair of transport-configured Mi-17 helicopters. On the following day these two aircraft rejoined and become fully operational with the Aviation Brigade's Transport Helicopter Squadron (Skvadron na Transportni Helikopteri, STH).
The two KVZ-produced aircraft, bearing the identification numbers "302" (former "VAM-302", c/n 223M97) and "303" (former "VAM-303", c/n 223M99), are historic for the Macedonian Air Force (Makedonsko Voeno Vozduhoplovstvo, MVV) as they are the survivors of a group of four Mi-17 transporters that have been procured in 1994 becoming the first aircraft to be procured for the Macedonian Army as well as the first helicopters to join the tiny Macedonian Air Force established in 1992.
Been sourced from Ukraine and procured via the Czech Republic, the four Mi-17s have been delivered to the Macedonian Air Force in two batches with the first pair arriving at Petrovec air base on June 28th, 1994. Been delivered and initially operated by the 301. Transport Helicopter Squadron painted in overall-white color scheme, the visual appearance of Mi-17s changed in 1996 when Macedonia was excluded from the UN arms embargo that immediately lead to re-painting of all four helicopters in an attractive military camo-scheme specially designed by late Macedonian Air Force pilot and aviation enthusiast, Major Mihajlo Ivanovski - Miks.
In its 23-years long history with the Macedonian Air Force, the Mi-17 fleet suffered two fatal crashes resulting with write-off of involved airframes. The first accident involved aircraft VAM-301 that hit a mast and crashed on landing at Popova Sapka ski resort, near the city of Tetovo, on March 17th, 2001, resulting with perishing of one crew member - mechanic Dragancho Ilievski - and serious injuries to 19 police officers and two pilots aboard. Seven years later, on January 12th, 2008, the helicopter wearing identification designation VAM-304 crashed into hill near Katlanovsko Blato in fog and burned out, killing all 11 Macedonian Air Force officers aboard. Been the worst accident in the history of the Macedonian Air Force, this accident happened only minutes before landing at Petrovec air base while the helicopter and its occupants were on a return flight from deployment to EUFOR-Althea peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Having been grounded for more than five years, the recent restoring of Mi-17s resulted with the prefix "VAM-" been removed from the military identification designation of the aircraft while at the same time inscriptions "Macedonian Air Force" and "Danger" been added for the first time on tail boom of Macedonian Mi-17s. The return of Mi-17s in service will significantly increase the overall capabilities of the Transport Helicopter Squadron that also operates four combat-configured Mi-8MT helicopters acquired second-hand from Ukraine in March 2001 (identification numbers "305", "306", "307" and "308").
Commenting the return of Mi-17s in operational use Macedonian Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski said that they are part of a batch of 10 Air Force helicopters scheduled to undergo a general overhaul over a two-year period, with four more to return to service by the end of 2017.
The overhaul of Macedonian Air Force helicopters is part of wider modernisation of Macedonian Army that been initiated in November 2014 and supported by multi-year financing of more than 200 million Euro is expected to result with procurement of new armoured personnel carriers in both 4x4 and 8x8 configurations, new 155-mm self-propelled howitzers, modernisation of T-72A main battle tanks, procurement of different types of personal equipment as well as more sophisticated systems for special forces use, and improvements to Macedonia's air surveillance and air defence capacities. The overhaul and modernisation of 10 helicopters, which include Mi-8MTs, Mi-17s and Mi-24Vs, is also covered in the plans.

Police receive new chopper from Russia
Citat:The police Airwing has received a boost after acquiring a new helicopter from Russia.
The mi-17 model will be used as a troop carrier with a capacity of up to 36 persons.
Technicians from Kazan helicopters, the manufacturers of the aircraft are expected to officially hand it over to police on Wednesday next week.

^iskreno ne znam sta da mislim o trenutnom stanju transportnih helikoptera uprkos lepim vestima...
lepo je sto nam dolazi najsavremeniji i ekonomicni H145M ali ipak to je u ovo situaciji daleko od dovoljnog. Uvodi se novi tip helikoptera u relativno maloj kolicini i time se dolazi do toga da imamo 3 razlicita helikoptera u upotrebi od toga dva u mizernim kolicinama a slicnih namena. Takodje mislim da ce ova nabavka postati izgovor za odustajanje od daljih nabavki V-5...
Prioritet su trebali biti dodatni V-5 kako bi se izgradio nekakav sistem...

Више пута смо писали о томе. Ако се ове или следеће године не ремонтује једини Ми-17 ми ћемо 2018. остати само на два Ми-17В-5.
