US Air Force chief ambivalent on F-15 Eagle retirement
Citat:The Air Force’s top general isn’t sold on the potential retirement of the F-15C/D Eagle, he said Wednesday.
After an event at the Heritage Foundation, Gen. David Goldfein told reporters he was still undecided on whether the service should retire its fleet of F-15C/D jets in the mid-2020s.
“We’re looking at all options all the time because until we get a budget, it’s really hard to plan. So occasionally you’re going to see us look at all kinds of different options,” he said. “So I have not made any decision on the F-15. I actually haven’t made a decision on any of the aircraft. We’re going to keep the F-15C around at least until 2020.”
Earlier this month, Air Force officials disclosed a budget planning option that would sideline the F-15C/D, replacing them with F-16s upgraded for better survivability in air-to-air combat. The younger fleet of F-15E Strike Eagles would remain intact.
Goldfein, speaking today, said continued high operational tempo precludes any immediate decision on its fleet of C and D model F-15s.

The navy grounded its T-45s indefinitely after pilots reported oxygen deprivation. T-45 instructors, but not students, were allowed returned to flying in April but under restrictions. The navy forced instructor pilots to fly under 5,000ft altitude and maintain 2g manoeuvres, an envelope that would not require the use of the use of the on-board oxygen generator system (OBOGS).
During a 13 June Senate hearing, Vice Adm Paul Grosklags, commander of Naval Air Systems Command, told members of Congress that the T-45 pilots often experience breathing gas issues while the F/A-18 pilots report pressurization problems.
“We’re not doing well on the diagnosis,” Grosklags told senators this week. “To date, we have been unable to find any smoking guns.”

Posade F/A-18 i EA-18G dobijaju satove Garmin Fenix 3
Citat:One of the measures taken by the U.S. Navy to combat the physiological episodes on the F/A-18s and EA-18Gs is to issue the aircrew a Garmin Fenix 3 watch.
The service confirmed that by August, all the fleet squadrons will get the watch which can sound an alarm when there is a change in cabin altitude. It was found that the aircraft’s environmental control system is causing most of the physical episodes on the Boeing fighter.
But engineers at NAVAIR are not full on board with the idea as they argued that the watch has yet to tested for accuracy for this type of application.
