ATAC opens ‘adversary center of excellence’ Citat:The Airborne Tactical Advantage Company (ATAC, part of Textron Airborne Solutions) has announced plans for a ‘Adversary Center of Excellence’ (ATAC-ACE) to perform its maintenance, repair and overhaul work at Fort Worth Alliance Airport, Texas.
The facility will be the center of the company’s largest operation to date, covering maintenance of over 80 fast jets that will operate around the US. This includes the company’s new Mirage F1s.
ATAC purchased 63 Mirage F1 fighters from France last year along with support equipment and 150 engines. It plans to use the Mirages in relation to the USAF’s Adversary Air (ADAIR) requirement, which requires almost 150 aircraft to fulfill the service’s Red Air training needs. Textron is planning to retrofit around 45 of the F1s with modern avionics systems such as digital radio-frequency memory-jamming capabilities and upgraded radars.

The company, a subsidiary of Discovery Air Defense, has a “guaranteed purchase agreement for 29 early block F-16s.” A and B models sold to a partner country through a foreign military sale, said David L. Philman, Top Aces vice president. “They are essentially our airplanes. We have money down on them, and we can bring them into the country as soon as we get a contract.”
Philman said the aircraft are being maintained and though they are not currently flying, they are “functional” and are considered in “flyaway condition.” He said he could not release the name of the country where the aircraft currently reside, but noted that all have either undergone the Falcon Star upgrade, or the kit has been purchased.
The Falcon Star upgrade extends the service life of the jets to 10,800 hours, and Philman said they have about 3,400 hours of commercial service left before they reach that point. That translates to between 10 and 15 years of commercial viability.

Citat:The contractors who bid on the solicitation will need to provide no more than 40 flight hours under daylight and visual flight rule restrictions, for a maximum of five possible training exercises annually. The solicitation notes that adversary fixed-wing aircraft are also desired, but remain contract optional at this point.
Additionally, the contractor will have to provide instructional tours for personnel looking for familiarization with foreign aircraft.

173rd welcomes new aircraft to Kingsley Field Citat:The 173rd Fighter Wing will receive a squadron of contracted aircraft to help increase training capacity, according to a press release.
Several L-159E Honey Badger Aircraft are scheduled to integrate into wing operations, with first flights planned for, Tuesday, June 5, at approximately 5 p.m.
“You will see some distinctly different jets flying over Klamath Falls over the next few months,” said Col. Jeff Smith, the 173rd Fighter Wing commander. “These Adversary Air (ADAIR) aircraft, pilots, and maintenance personnel are contracted by the U.S. Air Force to help us increase our training quality and student throughput.”
Ordinarily Kingsley Field F-15s simulate the adversary; this may require as many as four F-15s to train one student pilot in a given training mission. These new aircraft will fill the adversary role and our F-15s and instructor pilots can focus on flying students, said Smith.
