Vezano za buduci Saab-ov "hit" visenamenski radar , Giraffe 4A :
Cini mi se da je SAAB tu dobrano profitirao od tehnoloskog transfera vezanog za NorthropGrumman-ov projekat AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR, tj. visenamenski radar za nadzor protivnicke artiljerije, kontrolu VaP-a, PVO.

Francuski Thales radi na radaru za rano upozorenje dometa 3000 km, kazu da je bolji od americkog TPY-2 koji koristi THAAD.

Ronan Moulinet from Thales Air Systems SAS showed journalists one of five 3- by 4-meter sub-panels that make up a column, which is currently under test at the company’s Limours radar facility near Paris. He declined to specify against which ballistic missile launches the DRTLP could be tested, but it will face westward across the Atlantic from the site in southwest France, and have a range of 3,000 km.
Like the Raytheon BMEWS known as Pave Paws, the TLP is a low-frequency (UHF) radar. It can detect and track ballistic missiles from the boost to the exo-atmospheric phase and can be a “backbone of early warning capability,” according to Moulinet. He also noted that Pave Paws is a fixed-site system; the TLP’s modular design means that it can be dismantled and moved from site to site by container.

The shelter-based system has an endurance of over 10 hours on its internal capacity, says Terpstra, and its massive parallel processing capability gives it a true multimission capability. It is particularly effective in drawing targets out from complex ground clutter returns – traditionally a major challenge for tactical radar.

Providing reliable protection for the forces and assets is even more important in high-risk situations. This requires a flexible and agile radar which can be located close to the combat area. Saab’s Giraffe 1X is lightweight, with a total weight of less than 200 kg and is designed for easy integration. This means that the complete radar can be transported on a pickup truck-sized vehicle, a helicopter or towed on a trailer. Its flexibility and compactness mean Giraffe 1X can be easily shifted, for example from a vehicle to the roof of a building, making it ideally suited to the rapidly changing needs of mobile forces.
Because it can be operated both remotely and locally, Giraffe 1X can either be installed permanently on a building or mast or integrated into a suitable vehicle. Saab’s unique and proven enhanced low, slow and small (ELSS) capability also provides a dedicated counter-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) feature.
“We have a world-class range of surface radars and as a truly European supplier it is great to be able to showcase one of the new radar family members, Giraffe 1X, at Eurosatory”, says Anders Linder, head of Saab’s business unit Surface Radar Solutions.

The new RBS 70 NG VSHORAD from Saab, with 24/7 all-target capability has been developed for the most demanding combat situations. Its integrated sighting solution, enhanced operator aids, unbeatable range and unjammable laser guidance combine to produce a system with world-leading capabilities. When partnered with the Giraffe 1X, the VSHORAD suite is unmatched in target identification and countermeasures.

Saab’s Head of Surface Radars, Anders Linder, says it was this threat that prompted the development of Saab’s Enhanced Low, Slow and Small (ELSS) system, a capability that enables the company’s Giraffe range of air surveillance and air defence systems to distinguish between UAVs and birds with remarkable accuracy. “In the past, you might have seen 100 objects on a radar screen, and 99 of them were birds and one was a UAV,” says Linder. “So, we studied the flight patterns and behaviour of birds and developed algorithms and software that made it possible to identify the UAV.”

A Saab Giraffe 4A multifunction radar system featuring ELSS technology will be featured at the Saab Experience at Farnborough International Airshow 2016, England from July 11 to 17. Saab recently commenced serial production of the enhanced Giraffe range. Its Giraffe portfolio now includes the ground based long-range Giraffe 8A, as well as sea and land versions of the Giraffe 4A, the short-range Giraffe 1X and medium-range Giraffe AMB.
Linder says enhanced power and range mean Giraffe radars are now better equipped than ever to detect stealth-cloaked aircraft. They also feature industry-leading jamming resistance measures.
