Helicopters with an Onboard President-S System Are Ready for Export
Citat:Russian Helicopters Holding Company will equip its Mi-171Sh and Mi-17-V5 multi-functional helicopters, Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopter, and Mi-28NE and Ka-52 strike helicopters with cutting-edge onboard defense systems named President-S. This will make the Russian-made helicopters unreachable by MANPADs and air-to-air missiles.
The Holding's press release highlights the fact that the unstable international situation necessitates continuous upgrading of the helicopters and equipping them with the latest protection systems in order to enable safe flight in potentially dangerous areas.

Bird Aerosystems Spreos

Upon such event the system’s Missile Approach Verification System (MACS – which is part of the AMPS-MV) is activated. Employing a KU band radar to detect and localize and track. SPREOS improves on MACS in continuously tracking the target, providing the information for successful countermeasures.
Once the countermeasure game plan is selected the SPREOS employs a dual-band laser effector embedded into the radar antenna to deliver an appropriate, directional IR jamming signal to deceive the target’s seeker. Since the system’s radar continuously tracks the target, the effectiveness of the countermeasures employed is constantly assessed in real time, thus enabling the defense system to employ scalable defenses along the engagement. Throughout the process, the system’s AAR-60 sensors continue to watch out for new threats and could engage them with more traditional flares, if such countermeasures are available on board.

Citat:Northrop Grumman has been awarded a USD39.3 million contract related to the development of a laser-based self-defence system for the US Air Force (USAF).
The contract, which was awarded by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) on 23 August, is for the Self-Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD) Turret Research in Aero-Effects (STRAFE) programme.
Northrop Grumman will develop and deliver an advanced beam control system for integration as part of a complete laser weapons system into a tactical pod for USAF fighter aircraft.
As noted by the Department of Defense (DoD), the STRAFE aspect of the award will increase the knowledge and understanding of aero-optic disturbances in a supersonic environment by collecting data during engagement scenarios.
Work is expected to be complete by 31 August 2021.
It is intended that the SHiELD pod would better enable the USAF's fourth-generation fighter fleet, such as the Boeing F-15 Eagle and Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon, to survive in contested airspace. The fifth-generation Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II would probably not carry the pod, as it would negate their stealth characteristics.
Current defence countermeasures divert incoming missiles away from the target aircraft, while the externally carried SHiELD pod would instead destroy the missile. Future pods will seek to increase this power output for greater effect/range.
