The administration is also demanding the release of Serkan Golge, a NASA scientist who has been imprisoned for nearly a year, and three Turkish citizens who worked for the State Department in Turkey, the official said.

But the official said that if Mr. Brunson was not released by Wednesday, more sanctions could soon be put in place.

“Certainly the president has a great deal of frustration on the fact that Pastor Brunson has not been released, as well as the fact that other U.S. citizens and employees of diplomatic facilities have not been released,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, told reporters on Tuesday. “And we’re going to continue to call on Turkey to do the right thing and release those individuals.”

Additionally, during a meeting on Monday at the White House, Turkey’s ambassador to the United States asked for concessions for the Turkish state-owned bank, known as Halkbank, and one its executives, according to a person familiar with the conversation.

The bank is under investigation by the United States Treasury Department on suspicion of violating sanctions against Iran. One of the bank’s top executives, Mehmet Hakan Atilla, is serving time in an American prison after being convicted of charges related to helping orchestrate a billion-dollar scheme to evade the sanctions.

The Turks have sought leniency in the sanction process, and the extradition of Mr. Attila to serve a prison sentence in Turkey.

Advisor to Turkey’s Erdoğan proposes “Turkish-Russian empire”

Citat:An economic advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for Turkey to break away from the U.S. sphere of influence through the establishment of what he called a Turkish-Russian empire, independent news website T24 said .

“We need to re-evaluate our relationship with the West over the last 200 years. They have become used to dollarizing us. Russian-Turkish relations are being rewritten and these relations could stretch as far as Japan,” Yiğit Bulut said on state news channel TRT Haber.

He had never given up on the “Turkish-Russian empire thesis”, he said.

“If in 1854 we had gone hand in hand with the Russians, today people on the shores of Normandy would be walking around with Russian-Turkish dictionaries,” Bulut said in reference to the Crimean War in which Russian fought against an alliance of Britain, France and the Ottoman Empire.

Turkish citizens should be using Russian search engine Yandex rather than the American Google, Bulut said.

13 августа Минобороны Литвы заявило, что с осени 2018 года на территории республики заработает первый в Прибалтике авиационный полигон НАТО. Его близость к Калининграду (всего каких-то 50 км) была особенно отмечена литовским руководством.
В ответ на это событие в Интернете появилось огромное количество материалов о том, что «близость с российским анклавом не простит НАТО ещё одной случайно пущенной ракеты, как в Эстонии». Смею вас заверить, повторение этого «инцидента» крайне маловероятно. Тем более, как я уже писал ранее, он был вовсе не случайным.
