Citat: A U.S. Air Force B-52H Stratofortress leads a flight of four Swedish JAS-39 Gripens June 11, 2015, during a BALTOPS 2015 mission over the Baltic Sea. The aircraft took part in multiple missions throughout the exercise, including MK-62 Quick Strike mine drops and naval support functions. During this part of the exercise, the two airframes practiced aircraft intercepts and formation flights to hone skills between pilots from different countries. USAF stripping 30 B-52Hs of nuclear weapons capability

Citat:As US Air Force Global Strike Command anticipates the introduction of the nuclear-capable Long-Range Strike Bomber in the mid-2020s, the command is de-arming its air-launched cruise missile-carrying Boeing B-52 bombers to comply with New START treaty limits with Russia.

The command announced last week that 30 B-52Hs, all veterans of the Cold War, would be modified as conventional heavy bombers, in line with verifiable treaty standards.

Vintage Boeing B-52 gets new long-range Lockheed cruise missile

Citat:The Boeing B-52H is the vintage bomber that just won’t quit, and now the Cold War-era “Stratofortress” is being outfitted with one of America’s newest and longest-range conventional cruise missiles.

Lockheed Martin has been put on contract to arm the 54-year-old aircraft – which has outlived many of those who predicted its retirement – with the extended-range Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Weapon (JASSM) under a $9.1 million contract announced earlier this month.
