Citat:It is reported by Defense News that South Korea and Spain are discussing a deal to swap Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) KT-1 Woongbi and T-50 Golden Eagle training aircraft for Airbus Defence and Space A400M Atlas transport aircraft that will not be used by the Ejército del Aire (EdA, Spanish Air Force).

The discussion about the swap involves 34 KT-s and twenty T-50s and four to six A400Ms. Spain and South Korea have bilateral talks other during a joint defense industry committee in Madrid in November 2018. The proposal was, according to defense News, already made by Spain during the Farnborough International Airshow (UK) in July 2018.

The KT-1s and T-50s can be used to replace the eldery fleet of EdA T-35Cs, Casa 101s and F-5Ms. The EdA ordered 27 A400Ms, but will only use fourteen of them. A part of the thriteen surplus aircraft - with the approval of Airbus - can be used for the swap and resells. The total deal is estimated as some USD 890 million, with a unit-price of the A400Ms around USD 27 million.

Spain offered to trade its Airbus A400M Atlas airlifters with T-50 Golden Eagle and KT-1 Woongbi trainer jets produced by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), the source said on condition of anonymity.
"(The South Korean) government has begun to look at the proposed deal," the source said.
Spain is known to have ordered 27 A-400Ms from Airbus but has decided to sell 13 of them. It is reportedly hoping to deliver four to six A-400Ms to Korea in return for 30 KT-1s and 20 T-50s.
