MATRA rocket launchers (France), Air-launched rockets
Citat:Development
Beginning in the 1950s Matra SA (later Matra BAe Dynamics, now MBDA) developed a range of unguided rocket launchers for many calibres. The launchers embody similar design principles, and were developed primarily for use from fixed-wing aircraft, although some lightweight ones are believed to have been adapted for use from helicopters. In addition to reusable launchers, a series of expendable launchers has been developed. The launchers are used once only and then jettisoned. Launchers have also been developed that are combined with external fuel tanks.Although over the years the launchers have been developed mainly for three calibres of rocket - 37, 68, and 100 mm - today it is mainly the 68 and 100 mm family of Thomson Brandt (now TDA) rockets that are used with Matra launchers. The standard 68 mm launchers currently in service are the lightweight 6-, 18- and 36-round launchers designated Type F2, Type F4 and Type F1 respectively. Only one launcher has been developed for 100 mm rockets, the Type C6.With the advent of the TDA family of multidart rockets in 1984, Matra developed the Type 155, which is an 18-round launcher, and at the time was the first known launcher to have supersonic flight capability. All the launchers are designed with NATO 356 mm (14 in) suspension lugs in order to make them NATO compatible and have been cleared for carriage on many types of aircraft including the following: Alpha Jet, Epsilon, F-4 Phantom, Harrier, Jaguar, Mirage F1, S-211, MB-339, Mirage III, Mirage
