Traze jos 100 K2
Citat:According to the Korea Herald, South Korea's military is pushing to field some 100 additional units of the locally built K2 Black Panther tanks to strengthen frontline defense against North Korea, a military official said Thursday, May 12.
"The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) submitted the request citing the need for 100 or so more K2 tanks in October and the Ministry of National Defense is carrying out a verification of the demand," the military official said.
K2 is the South Korean Army's main battle tank (MBT) and has been produced since 2013. The tank developed in the country has been reaching frontline units starting in 2014, with a total of 206 K2 tanks having been deployed or are in the process of being delivered.
The additional production plan, if accepted, would push up the number of the South Korean military's fleet to more than 300 tanks.

S.Korean Submarine Explodes, Killing 3 Sailors
09:29 AM, August 17, 2016
A South Korean submarine exploded Tuesday possibly due to gas accumulated within the vessel.
The submarine was docked at the repair facility from May 3 for testing, before beginning its full scale repairs. However, we were about to send it for repairs today, a military official was quoted as saying by various local media.
The military is investigating on precisely how the accident took place, he added.
The explosion killed three sailors and injured one while they were trying to open the hatch of the submarine. One sailor was found killed at the scene and another died of his injuries at a navy hospital, while the body of the third was found by the navy after a search that lasted more than five hours.
The submarine had been in service for the past 30 years.
Korea Navy (ROKN) presently operates a submarine flotilla of nine diesel-electric Jang Bogo-class Type 209/1200 and six Son Wonil-class Type 214 hybrid diesel-electric or fuel cell vessels with air-independent propulsion.
