Single aircraft produced by Grumman in response to an Air Force proposal to replace the Convair F-106 Delta Dart as an Aerospace Defense Command interceptor in the 1970s. Photo taken at the Grumman Calverton test facility in the summer of 1972. Note the simulated "Buzz Code" and Aerospace Defense Command livery and emblem on the tail. It had one test flight on 12 September 1973, however the F-14B program was terminated in April 1974.

Citat:First, F-14s of the Pacific Fleet. PACFLT Tomcats were based at NAS Miramar, outside of San Diego. Known as Fightertown, Miramar's ramp featured dozens of F-14s from their introduction to the fleet in 1972, through the base being turned over to the Marine Corps in October of 1997.

The Wolfpack of VF-1 was established in 1972 as one of the first two F-14 fleet squadrons. They sailed on the USS Enterprise, and actually were in SEA at the conclusion of the Vietnam War, though they did not fly combat missions. 162597 is seen carrying throwback CAG markings at Miramar in 1988, duplicating the markings all of its jets carried when the squadron first stood up. VF-1 was an early victim of Clinton's massive military drawdown after the First Gulf War, standing down on October 1, 1993. 162597 was struck from the inventory on Feb. 18, 1999 after finishing its service life with VF-14.

VF-31 Tomcatters је ејдна од две најстарије морнаричке ескадриле САД. Настала је давне 1935, а знак јој је био Мачор Феликс. Међутим јединица какву данас познајемо настала је 1943 године а прославила се на морнаричким авионима Груман Ф4Ф Вајлдкет и Ф6Ф Хелкет...
Своје прве мачоре добија почетком 1980 године.

Слике са последњег крстарења мачора и његово последње полетање са носача Теодор Рузвелт Јула 2006....

F-14 was wery effecient, but also a failure. US. navy beginning in 1978 included 250 aircraft into service, and August fell 26 Tomcat. In the wreckage killed 69 Tomcat pilots, about the effectiveness of ejection seat about 80% It would bemore than 170 crashed, a total of 632 aircraft were manufactured and losses reached about 27%.

Добила је октобра 1978 своје прве мачоре, родни град им је био НАС Мирамар. Јединица је расформирана децембра 1995....Позната је била по снимању Топ Гун филма где су њени мачори летели у многим сценама....

Ovo je Vought 507, jedan od glavnih konkurenata F-14 u programu VFX koji je izgubio bitku na tenderu.
Ovaj avion je jedan od retkih koji je napravljen kao prototip za razliku od drugih konkurenata koji su ostali samo na papiru...


Ovo je General Dynamics VFX-GD, takođe jedan od konkurenata...






Inače svi konkurenti tadašnjem Grummanu-303 nalaze se ovde...
