Plane number 661, which touched ground at the Nevatim Air Base after a 12-hour flight from the United States, is the first of three J-model aircrafts that Israel ordered from the Lockheed Martin Corporation.Equipped with Israeli-made electronic warfare, defense and other systems and custom-built according to the IAF's specifications, the Super Hercules, which the IAF has named "Samson" in tribute to the biblical hero of the ancient Israelites, is designated for a variety of missions: transporting troops and equipment, air-dropping supplies, parachute jumps, aerial refueling, maritime patrol and covert missions.
