Citat:Twenty-two single-seat F-104A and a pair of two-seat F-104B Starfighters are readied for delivery at the Lockheed Aircraft facility in Palmdale, California, in January 1958. In two of the aircraft on the left, the General Electric J79-GE-3A engine has been removed, while one the of the 9,300 pound thrust engines is readied for installation in another. Curiously, the removable one-piece tail section for one of the F-104As (56-0818) appears to have been pulled (or is being installed) on the aircraft bearing a different buzz number (FG-793, i.e. 56-0793). A total of 153 F-104As and twenty-six F-104Bs were built for the US Air Force. The Starfighter was unofficially—but widely known—as the Zipper for its Mach 2 top speed.

Dva Starfighter-a na Royal International Air Tattoo 1994-te god.
Na delu između 35-36e sekunde se nalazi lik u plavoj majci sa kamerom blokirajući na momenat pogled čoveka koji je snimao dolazak para F-104 na RIAT.
Taj neverovatno lep 24-vorogodišnji mladić sam JA lično!!!
neverovatno! Ovo je već drugi put da se vidim na nečijim snimcima sa aeromitinga tokom godina provedenih tamo jer sam išao na 3-4 njih godišnje pa nije ni čudo da se vidim na par snimaka na webu... Neverovatni doživljaji gledati te legendarne a sada penzionisane avione!

"By the time of its retirement, the Luftwaffe would lose some 270 F-104s to accidents, equaling roughly 30 percent of West Germany's entire Starfighter fleet. Even more costly is the irreplaceable human toll of the deaths of nearly 110 German pilots at the controls of the Starfighter. The Starfighter's legacy in German military service is one of admiration, intrigue and in certain circles discontent. Many pilots had a love-hate relationship with the type, but in the end it would be the lack of proper training, maintenance, unforeseen technical issues and operating the type in environments it was not designed to operate in that would tarnish the image of the supersonic interceptor. While certain circles champion the F-104, others still hold the aircraft in negative light unable to move past the derogatory titles such as 'lawn dart' or 'tent peg'. "
