Jet Fighter Acquisition was Key Topics Discussed by DND-Sweden
Citat: Sweden's offer to supply Saab-made JAS-39 "Gripen" multi-role fighters (MRF) to the Philippines was among the key topics discussed by Department of National Defense (DND) officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr. and Swedish Ambassador to Manila Annika Thunborg in a recent meeting.
Thunborg paid a courtesy call on Faustino at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Dec. 21 to discuss "mutual interests in the field of defense", DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said in a statement Tuesday.
The JAS-39 "Gripen" is one of the two jet fighters eyed by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to fulfill its MRF requirement.
"The OIC, DND and the Swedish Ambassador discussed the PAF MRF Acquisition Project and the offer of Swedish defense and aerospace company Saab AB of Gripen aircraft, which has been on the PAF's shortlist," Andolong said.
Another contender in the PAF's MRF acquisition program is the Lockheed Martin F-16V "Viper" jet fighter.

Saab Offered a Lease Option for Its JAS-39 C/D Gripen to the Philippine Air Force
Citat:A European defense page reported that Saab offered a lease option to the Philippines for its JAS-39 Gripen C/D fighter aircraft, similar to those accepted by the Czech Republic and Hungary.

This is to make it easier for the Philippines to afford to have fighters for the Philippine Air Force as funding continues to be the biggest problem.

While a lease option may have been made, the Philippine Government may not take the option, and instead will make ways to find the needed funding for the project.

This could be through unprogrammed funding for the Fiscal Year 2023, which can be tapped to produce the 15% initial funding for the project to allow the purchase of 12+2 JAS-39C/D Gripen, the IRIS-T and Meteor BVRAAM, and the RBS-15F anti-ship missile, among others.

DND Resubmitted Its Request for Approval of the MRF Acquisition Project to President Marcos Jr.

And that initial funding would be using Unprogrammed Funds under General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2023 which has more than enough to finance the initial funding required to start the project.

Ceska pregovara o koriscenju Gripena do 2035. a mogli bi i da im ostanu jer su otplaceni. U toku su pregovori za 24 F-35 ali nisu sigurni da im mogu stici do 2029.

The Czech Ministry of Defense has officially been negotiating with the Pentagon for five months to purchase 24 F-35 fighters. However it is worried that the American fighters could not be delivered on time in 2029 when the lease for Gripen fighters expire.

“Negotiations with the U.S. do not close the door for other platforms. The basic goal of the Czech Republic has always been and remains to be able to protect our airspace with our own means even during the transition to a new platform,” said Defense Spokesman David Jareš to Novinky when queried on the talks with Sweden.

Lawmakers on the Defense Committee have been briefed last week on the topic of extending the lease and the purchase of F-35s. An anonymous lawmaker said the Czech Ministry of Defense had proposed to Sweden that the Gripens be donated to the Czech Republic. Last year, Swedish ambassador to Czech Republic Fredrik Jörgensen said in an interview with Seznam Správy that Czech can keep the Gripens for free. “There is a possibility to transfer these aircraft currently rented by the Czech Republic for essentially zero costs. They have already been paid for, it’s like a car on leasing. We would consider them essentially paid off and on this basis we could expand the cooperation system with Gripen C or further with Gripen E, Jörgensen was quoted as saying.

Priča je zapravo dosta široka.
Od toga da im je u pregovorima oko F-35A stavljeno do znanja da će kao i Poljaci morati da za njih izgrade kompletno novu avio-bazu - pri tome uopšte nije sigurno da će to biti Časlav, već će se "poslušati preporuka" Amerikanaca (eufemizam za "izgradiće gde im Ameri kažu") što podrazumeva (ma koji aerodrom da bude bio izabran) ostavljanje samo PSS i rušenje svega ostalog (do temelja) i izgradnje svega novog...

Drugo čak i da Ameri ispoštuju sve rokove i dostave im F-35A najkasnije tokom 2029. godine, procenjuje se da će samo uvođenje ovog tipa aviona trajati bar par godina do postizanja onih početne operativne sposobnosti...

U Češkoj postoje "glasovi" i mišljenja stručne javnosti da celom problemu treba pristupiti racionalnije i postojeću eskadrilu Gripena C/D dopuniti sa još jednom verzije E/F što bi bilo mnogo bezbolnije i što se tiče logistike i što se tiče tranzicije pilotskog/tehničkog kadra....samo nažalost od toga neće biti ništa.Kao što sam mnogo puta rekao "može centrala da pogreši jednom ali ne 100 puta" tj. neće Ameri pustiti da im još jednom neko istera pare iz džepa i preuzme naciljanju mušteriju kao što je Saab uradio početkom 2000-ih....
