The most recent Armet development for the Military in cooperation with MAGNA INTERNATIONAL is the
GURKHA SPOOK, painted and trimmed in its black night-time livery. This Stealth unit is best described as
a Tactical Ghostly Apparition used in hours of darkness. This not a future development, this is well past the
concept stage and the availability of such units is June 2011!
The GURKHA SPOOK is designed specifically for stealthy operations at night to allow troops to drive
silently to contact against a nearly invisible enemy saboteur laying landmines or IEDs or even in drug
interdiction operations against criminals or subversive elements. These units are equipped with a 30 foot
mast with night vision and infrared cameras and audio listening devices as well as with stations for the
mounting of suitable weapons and for inclement weather, closeable canvas covers.
While still maintaining the appearance of the GURKHA LAPV in the development of the GURKHA SPOOK,
but with its unarmored body, ARMET has utilized composite materials in the passenger compartment body,
hood and front clip that are more typically used in the Air Force’s STEALTH bombers and fighters and even
by BOEING and the European AIRBUS Company in their latest aircraft designs.
The aircraft industry uses laminated unidirectional thermoplastic composite materials that are incorporated
into a modern aircraft’s structure and fuselage to create an exceptionally lightweight aeroplane. In addition
to being lightweight, these composite aircraft offer critical resistance to fatigue, corrosion and impact
damage.
ARMET has recognized the benefits of these space age materials which are a compound of carbon, Aramid,
glass fibres and synthetic resins. The materials are consolidated into a laminated matrix which is industrially
processed and moulded into our tactical vehicle bodies. The laminates provide stiffness in the body design
and toughness in the corners and intersecting body lines to form a lightweight, but structurally sound body
that is likely many times stronger than any other automobile or truck presently on the highway.
In addition, similar to the armored version, the GURKHA SPOOK vehicle structure is of a Hollowdeck ™
interior safety cage that allows for the integration of external appliqué or internally mounted ballistic armor
if the client desires to install such a protective shield.
The most imaginative optional devices are available on the GURKHA SPOOK which not only includes the
availability of steel armor-plated bodies, but as well, the optional and very latest composite body with
appliqué armor with both armor types capable of defeating the 12.7 x 99mm (.50 cal) M2 rounds. Presently
using a powerful gasoline engine giving a top speed in excess of 165km/h and when in the Stealth mode, it
can be carried along in virtual silence using the very latest electric stealth motor that gives a top speed of
85km/h and a travel distance of over 50km. The users of the remarkable GURKHA SPOOK are clearly
winners in any interdiction operation.
May be used within North America or for General Export
