Denel Aviation Team and FAE to jointly investigate incident on Cheetah aircraft with FAE

Denel Aviation confirms that one of the 12 Cheetah supersonic fighter aircraft sold to the Air Force of Ecuador in 2010 experienced an in-flight incident on Monday the 15th August in Taura.
For this reason, the CEO of Denel Aviation, Mike Kgobe, says an investigation team from the company has been sent to Ecuador to carry out a full investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Kgobe has indicated that the Denel team will arrive on Ecuador on Thursday, 18th August 2011 and will work closely with the FAE investigators to determine the cause of the incident and assess the damage to the aircraft, which is currently in quarantine while the investigation is carried out.
The Denel test pilot, Mike Weingartz, who was seated in the rear cockpit of the aircraft, brought the aircraft safely back to the Taura Air Base in Ecuador.
The FAE Ecuadorian pilot, Major Galo Álvarez, suffered light injuries and was taken to the Naval Hospital, where he is being treated and recovering.
