RAF continues Tornado disbandments
Citat:The UK is to disband two more Panavia Tornado GR.4 units on 28 March, as the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) continues to drawdown the type ahead of its final retirement date of 2019.
Parades marking the disbandment of 12 (Bomber) and 617 'Dambusters' squadrons are to be held at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland on the same day, leaving the RAF with just three frontline GR.4 units in the form of 2 (Army Cooperation), 9, and 31 squadrons located at RAF Marham in England.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), 15 (Reserve) Squadron, which performs operational conversion unit duties at the station, will continue to operate and train students at RAF Lossiemouth until at least 2015. "The long-term future of the squadron is yet to be decided; however, it is not intended for [it] to be relocating to RAF Marham," an RAF spokesperson told IHS Jane's .
RAF Lossiemouth will continue as a frontline station, with the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4-equipped 1 (Fighter) and 6 squadrons transferring to the base from nearby RAF Leuchars later this year.
